Boehner versus the Beatle
Hey, Paul. Don't apologize. You're right. Bush is a moron.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/right-now/2010/06/boehner_versus_the_beatle.html

Human Events' Connie Hair gets Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) to demand an apology from Paul McCartney, after the former member of Wings* accepted the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song from President Obama and used the occasion to be thankful that America had a president "who knows what a library is."

Boehner:
Like millions of other Americans, I have always had a good impression of Paul McCartney and thought of him as a classy guy, but I was surprised and disappointed by the lack of grace and respect he displayed at the White House. I hope he'll apologize to the American people for his conduct which demeaned him, the White House and President Obama.

What are the odds on an apology? Slimmer, probably, than the odds of Drudge picking Hair's story up.

*and some other band, I think

1. But calling Obama a "Hitler loving, Commie Pinko Marxist Anti-Christ" is fine

Or did I miss where Boner called for an apology to Obama?

Edited on Fri Jun-04-10 02:40 PM by librechik

7. Steve Benen: The same day mcCartney joked about moron Bush, moron Bush bragged about torture.
http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2010_06/024111.php

...

The same day McCartney told a harmless joke about George W. Bush's limited intellect, George W. Bush boasted about having ordered torture as president, and insisted he wouldn't change a thing if he had it to do over again.

So, just so we're clear, a musician telling a Bush-is-dumb joke generates a fair amount of outrage in some conservative circles. A former president admitting to ordering torture -- bragging about utilizing a technique that the United States has long considered criminal, and has even prosecuted -- is completely fine.

One, in Boehner's mind, requires an apology; the other is a source of partisan pride.

There's something deeply wrong with this picture.

11. The Boner should explain why he's assuming McCartney meant Bush
No where did McCartney mention Bush's name. For all Boehner knows (and that's not much), Sir Paul may have been speaking about the president of some other country.

13. Hey, Boner, it is amendment #1 freedom of speech. It means
we are free to call a moron a moron.

But let me step in for Sir Paul and say:
"I am extremely sorry that America had the most pathetic, amoral, ignorant bastard for president from 2001 to 2009."
