Rockets hit NATO base in Afghanistan
Rockets hit NATO base in Afghanistan
Fri, 04 Jun 2010 08:17:05 GMT

Amidst efforts to establish peace, militants have fired rockets at NATO's main base in southern Afghanistan leaving several foreign troops wounded.

Four rockets were fired at Kandahar Air Field on Thursday, two at around 3:00 pm, one at 8:00 pm and another two hours later, US officials told AFP.

This is the second time in the last 13 days the compound has come under attack.

On May 22nd, a rocket and ground attack on the Kandahar base wounded a number of people and forced a security lockdown in one of Afghanistan's largest military bases.

The rockets come as security is enhanced in Kabul on the third and last day of the jirga, or meeting of Afghan elders, which was called with hopes of finding a solution to end the ongoing conflict.
