1. Looks like an ordination to me. |

I don't know. Do you see something I'm missing, perhaps?

to be fully dressed, and it is a cover for a Catholic magazine. So, I vote for an ordination.
Seems like some folks are seeing evil where it doesn't exist. That's a mistake, in my opinion, and it diminishes a serious problem.
Evil is in the eye of the beholder in this case.
Still, if you enjoy viewing such things, I'm sure I can find you some links in a PM. :sarcasm:

5. Honi soit qui mal y pense... |
|
For the non francophones on DU, that translates to "Shame on him who thinks evil."
Among other things Catholics do, ordaining priests is one that's not really all that offensive, even to this atheist.
It's the cover of a Catholic magazine. It depicts a Catholic liturgical event.

Amading how some people will do ANYTHING to mock, bash, or otherwise attack the Catholic Church.
Like other institutions (religious and non-religious) are free from scandal?

7. It's a cheap, moronic attempt at something, indeed. |
|
And I'm an atheist. I find this kind of thing really reprehensible. It tarnishes the hard work of those who have worked to expose sexual abuse problems in the RCC.
Moronic adolescent attempt at humor. Feh!

8. Yeah, it's just a little systematically covered-up child rape, no big deal. |

The REAL sinners are people who make jokes. Yup, your priorities are in order.

10. Look, I'm as disgusted by the molestation and cover-up as anyone |
|
but this has nothing to do with that. It's a sophomoric attempt to poke at the Catholic Church. It is also FAIL.
Did you find it amusing? Really?

The Church should be mocked, shamed, and derided into dust. They should never, NEVER live it down, especially while their supposedly infallible leader is up to his ears in it.

Meanwhile, could someone please explain to me exactly why they wish to bash the ENTIRE Catholic Church for the sins of a few?

17. The POPE is complicit. The POPE. |
|
And it's not so very few as you'd like. Nobody is held accountable, so there is no recourse BUT ridicule. If they want it to stop, they need to stop. I see no signs of that, nothing but a pathetic PR campaign.

9. I'm surprised nobody has shown up to tell me to "lighten up." |
|
I guess the moronic nature of this attempt at humor is one of those "hit and run" things. Little boys do that a lot, then they run off and giggle out of sight. It's not an appealing behavior.
So, show back up and tell us why you posted this. We'll be watching for your response. I'd like to know what you though you saw in the photo and why you believed it to be worthy of posting on DU's General Discussion forum.
Did you think we were interested in seeing a priest being ordained? Is that it?

happy?
The JOKE is that priests like to perform sex acts on children and the Catholic Church has a history of hiding such activity.....

Really? I did not know that. It's still not funny. I don't see the humor.
Besides, that rod is the only reason this old, decrepit guy can stand upright, doncha know?
Now, if either of the people in that photo are child molesters, you let me know, OK?

It's funny because it does look like he's getting head -- often done fully dressed -- but more because whoever approved the cover is tone deaf to the situation.
Also, it doesn't really look like an ordination, because at an ordination, there would be scads of people in the background. This looks like they're in the church all by themselves.

19. Don't you know you're supposed to be outraged for the church?! |
|
Yes. Forget about abuse victims, there's pride to be restored.
If the Catholic church wants to stop people from associating their priests with child abuse they should stop so many of them from abusing children in their charge. No where has "blame the victim" been more prevalent.

Looks like he's getting a good shampoo.
But, hell, I'm ex-Baptist and the rites of Catholicism were always confusing!
