Michael Moore faces U.S. Treasury probe
Michael Moore faces U.S. Treasury probe
By DAVID GERMAIN, AP Movie Writer

LOS ANGELES - Academy Award-winning filmmaker Michael Moore is under investigation by the U.S. Treasury Department for taking ailing Sept. 11 rescue workers to Cuba for a segment in his upcoming health-care documentary "Sicko," The Associated Press has learned.

The investigation provides another contentious lead-in for a provocative film by Moore, a fierce critic of President Bush. In the past, Moore's adversaries have fanned publicity that helped the filmmaker create a new brand of opinionated blockbuster documentary.

"Sicko" promises to take the health-care industry to task the way Moore confronted America's passion for guns in "Bowling for Columbine" and skewered Bush over his handling of Sept. 11 in "Fahrenheit 9/11."

The Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control notified Moore in a letter dated May 2 that it was conducting a civil investigation for possible violations of the U.S. trade embargo restricting travel to Cuba. A copy of the letter was obtained Tuesday by the AP.

1. That will give him some free publicity...
Instead of going after Moore the US gov't should be going after Osama - remember dead or alive- at every press conference and Pundit TV show they should be asked where is Osama and why hasn't he been caught yet.

2. Little fascist crybabys........
Republicans......projection is thy name. They cry about the 'criminalization of politics' when one of their people is caught, in fact, being a criminal..............in the same breath, they snitch, encourage snitching and call the secret service, FBI, or anyone else they can think of on their political opponents. Now they want to intimidate someone for going on a humanitarian mission......good luck with that. IIRC, humanitarian missions to Cuba are kosher and I don't think bringing along a camera to document is going to change anything......unless rethugs are against free speech and freedom of the press - oh yeah, I forgot.

4. Isn't if very very odd
that James Dobson, Pat Robertson and Jerry Farwell have NEVER been investigated for the fact that they are tax free and continue to carry out partisan political activities. How in the hell can you get the IRS to investigate REAL TAX FRAUD.

5. Those rat bastards have just been waiting for their chance to get Michael Moore. This will just make
him a shoe-in for an Academy Award and his "SICKO" movie will do even BETTER than F911! Dumb asses. Didn't they learn anything from the Bill O'LIElly/Al Franken fiasco? O'LIElly lost the bogus law suit and Al Franken's book became a HUGE BEST SELLER BECAUSE of the bogus law suit.

to keep US authorities from seizing it.
