Insight on how to communicate effectively with Congress! |
|
Here is what someone on another forum had to say. And I find it pretty important.
Petitions and emails are largely ignored by elected officials. I dated one of Pelosi's aides. She gave me the break-down... Every 150 emails counts as one person. Petitions are even less effective. Write a letter. Each letter counts as one person. Be concise, make clear your position, and be polite... ie, don't come off as a wingnut... those letters are ignored are ignored all together.

I thought this was at least as important as the 600 reply post from nowhere.

Write it longhand..sign it..add your phone number, and mail it snailmail.
I know people think that the anthrax thing made snail mail obsolete, but they just scan the mail and it still gets to the politician.
If it's a person you could vote for or somewhat like, toss in a $5 check and write re-election committee or campaign office on the corner of the envelope.
They open all those letters with checks in them, don't they?

has provided a wonderful way to avoid the slower pace that "snail mail" takes when sent in an envelope: take the typed or longhand letter, and fold it X3, as if you were going to stuff it in the envelope. Instead, staple or tape it "shut." Then address one side, add the stamp, and its ready to go. Being "open" at the ends, and clearly not containing anything dangerous, it goes through quicker than an envelope.
Messages are considered to be ranked: (1) longhand; {2} typed; (3) e-mail; {4} form letter; and {5} petitions.
It should be mentioned, however, that petitions have more weight on a "local" level than on the state or federal level. Use petitions when trying to get the mayor/local official's attention.

It's important to write letters, and mail them. E-mail is a good thing, too.
