Happy Birthday Virginia...
warts and all, still one of the prettiest and most historical states (technically a commonwealth) in the nation. The cradle of liberty and freedom. We're finally attempting to right major wrongs by recognizing our native peoples, as well as our heinous role in human subjugation. New and exciting discoveries about our past are coming to light by the day.

Too bad the fundies still rule for the time being, but the tide is turning, the Democrats are blowing the pubbies away in fundraising right now!!! :kick:

Anyway, if any of you out there haven't come to visit us, please come, you won't regret it, it's a great place!!! :hi:

1. A hearty Happy Birthday Virginia
I was a resident (Chesapeake) in 66 and 67. Had a great time as only a 12 year old can. I've also had the opportunity to visit on Navy TAD trips (Williamsburg and Cheatham Annex) and yes the state is beautiful and the history is incredible. And if you plan a visit don't miss General Macarthur's grave. He's buried in the old Post Office in Norfolk.

If you want to see some more incredible beauty in our country Virginia Dare, just check out the Ozarks in North Arkansas. Specifically Eureka Springs.

3. Thanks, I will put that on my list of places to visit BOSS...
I've only traveled through the cotton growing area of Arkansas, never the northern part, I've heard it's beautiful though! :hi:

10. One of the saddest places in the state...
is Fredericksburg, and really most of Spotsylvania County. Major pieces of history obliterated. It borders sacrilegious what they've done.

6. Happy birthday to us!
I was born in Chincoteague when my dad was stationed at the now-defunct Naval Air Station there. I've lived in this state ever since I graduated from college in '74, and despite the fact that I sometimes feel that I've wondered into Red-State Hell, I still love my commonwealth.

7. Yes,
Even The Stones wrote about our fair state ... Come On, Come on down, sweet Virginia ...

I don't know about the rest of my fellow Virginians, but in my right wing, koolaid drinking part of the state, "Virginia is for Greed and Graft. :(

However, I'm sure there are more enlightened areas in this state ... but IMO, not around the D.C. beltway.

13. Oh, I sure hope you're correct because, like Allen, it would rid us of another RW ideologue.
 :hi:

p.s. My district is so damn red (republican) that I have to go vote in the republican primary (we don't have to declare a party here in Virginia) in the hope that we can elect the least INSANE republican to our State Senate Office. The Democratic Nominee (even if he's JC's brother) does not stand a chance, so the best we can do is, again, get our buddies to vote in "the least rabid" republican.

14. I still regret not voting for McCain in the primary in 2000...
might have saved us a whole lot of heartaches if he'd won, and Gore was a lock for the Dems anyway.
