'Vice President Dick Cheney fired a new warning shot across the bow of the nation of Iran Friday, saying the United States would prevent the country from developing nuclear weapons.

Speaking aboard an aircraft carrier some four years after President Bush declared victory in "major" Iraq combat operations, Cheney declared, "we want to complete the mission, get it done right and return with honor."

The US has two aircraft carriers in the region.

AP notes that "Iran exerts considerable control over the narrow passageway that separates the Persian Gulf from the open waters of the Arabian Sea. Roughly a quarter of the world's oil supplies pass through the Straits of Hormuz."

Cheney spoke as five warplanes stood arrayed behind him.'

11. Yesterday I was reading (on DU)admonitions regarding today's

date 5/11.....there were lots of postulations of bad things that could happen and when I saw this article it made wonder if this isn't the bad news. Cheney certainly has done a lot of running around the ME lately.....you "know" something is up.....slimey. They have to get the heat off of them with all the investigations and hearings going on so another war would do that. imho

I do think Cheney standing on the carries is not a good sign , it seems like he is trying to provoke another attack , this time on Iran .

This subject seems to come and go , a month ago it was in all the blobs and lately it has dropped off the pages , now here is Cheney drumming up more fear or horrid reality .

It certainly would take the heat off all the investigations if there were such an attack .

I just get so sick of the feeling of being on the edge of another war that could turn into WW III . and Russia now comparing the US to a cause worse than Hilter does not help .
