I find the TV show "Jericho" too close to home for comfort. What |
|
are the producers trying to tell us? Is it a warning or is it a some smart money manager trying to cash in on the * fear machine?

You can watch the shows online at cbs.com
So, the US was hit with multiple nucler bombs. And it's about what this town does to survive. How are they dealing with the current threats out there.
It's good, I like it.

17. How is Jericho considered 'right wing'??? |
|
Do you watch the show? From the looks of it, it seems as if a coup took place within the US government and members of the D.H.S and other government officials were behind it.

I don't need to see Americans fighting Americans. Too much like the bridge at New Orleans.

At least way back in the day...he seems rather grungy when I see the previews for the show but I think he's suppose to look that way.

Living in Kansas I felt an odd need to check out the show. It has not hooked me but I like it. I have kept up with it mainly because I have always liked Skeet Ulrich and yes, he is cute isn't he? I also think he is good. Ever seen Nobody's Baby? I loved it and Gary Oldman is wonderful in it too. OK, enough of me hijacking this thread. :hi:

10. I watch "Jericho" and it's premise is |
|
not an unreasonable reaction to the adversity they face. I could actually see it happening should there be a total breakdown of society due to nuclear mayhem, viral pandemic, global warming or post-Peak Oil. Those last two are already realities that could lead to such a premise.

If it was a 'warning' for right wingers satan would have nade an appearance by now.
I do like the show though. One reason is because it is superbly cast.Everyone on the show, even the small bit part players, all seem to be excellant actors.

19. If You Like "Jericho," Read The Masterpiece It's Based On |
|
"Alas, Babylon," the 1959 sci-fi novel by Pat Frank. All about a small Florida community coming together and surviving in the aftermath of a nuclear war. It has something other books of the era ("On The Beach," "FailSafe")lack---hope, in the midst of overwhelming adversity. Still in print, available at your local book store. No peaking at the last page.....

22. I read "Alas, Babylon" back in the 60s when I was a teen |
|
A few years ago I picked up a copy at a booksale and read it again, not expecting it to hold up at all. I was very pleasantly surprised. It was as engaging in this century as it was 40 years ago. Very easy read, too.

21. I think it's just a TV show.... |
|
Edited on Fri May-11-07 09:15 PM by SayWhatYo
Maybe I'm not cynical enough to think that everything is some weird 'conspiracy' or something 'funky', but I think the writers thought it would make a good show that people will watch. It's not like many of others shows out there *cough* 24 *cough* which seems to be loosely related to the 'real world', that depending on your level of cynicism, you might be able to make the connections you made. I tend to think in some cases that they are simply taking advantage of the 'fear' in order to make some cash. The show 24(which I think it the most stupid show) might fall in that category. Jericho on the other hand, no.
Then again, shows like that are nothing new, so I dunno.

I mean, it's not uncommon for script writers to pull stuff out of real events. Of course, having bad guys in the government planning coups isn't something new.
Even if they had Cheney(or someone else) in mind when they wrote the script, it's not exactly pro-cheney(or whoever)
Of course if you're really into those far-out theories, then maybe they are telling us the future through movies. You know, like the lone gunmen show and the twin towers having plans flown into them. I don't really buy that stuff myself, but hey, whatever floats your boat. :D

27. Don't know, but it is looking like a right-wing coup |
|
was the reason for the attack.
And it looks like Jericho is on the wrong side of the border (note the flag near the end of the show).
