Howard Kurtz wonder's why Sharpton isn't outraged about the shock jocks fantasy rape of Rice & Bush.
He was on Paula Zahn discussing the topic and was wanting to know why all the Sharpton's out there aren't seeking to get these two shock jocks fired from satellite radio.

8. Well for one thing he asked the wrong question.
He should have asked the question without inputting Sharpton. And the reason why no one is asking for these guys to get fired is because this just happened yesterday, I believe. Give it time. Kurtz only said "Sharptons" because the joke was about Rice, who is black and he didn't really come out and say it but because Rice is an AA repuke, he insinuates the "Sharptons" thinks it's okay.

10. Well, I think you are right about the time frame,
It is irresponsible to go attacking people for what they do or don't say so early in the game. But I do think the larger point about her being black and Republican is a valid one. If you're going to start trying to get radio personalities fired because of vile and racist comments, this example should certainly apply whether she is Republican or not. And, frankly, I suspect Kurtz is right that Sharpton will avoid this because she is Republican. I think if he does, it is a valid point for Kurtz to make.

11. Okay, well why aren't we hearing from those so called "christian"
republicans out there? And I'll bet if someone asked Sharpton his opinion on that, he would want these guys fired.

13. Well, did they speak out about Imus?
The issue is even-handedness. If you take a stand on this sort of issue, you should be consistent, regardless of political party.

15. I don't think they did.
"If you take a stand on this sort of issue, you should be consistent, regardless of political party."

Imus's "nappy headed ho" comment had nothing to do with politics. It was racist.

2. Probably because the jocks don't have politicians on their show
Or have Cheney praise them.

And NOBODY considers that they've "made it" if they've appeared on those clowns' show.

4. When he wonders why Sharpton isn't enraged about Barack the magic Negro
(Limpballs parody song) I'll think he's serious. Otherwise he's just whining about imus.

20. Kurtz thought Imus was charming
http://mediamatters.org/items/200704140001

On April 12, during a report on the controversy sparked by Don Imus' remarks about the Rutgers University women's basketball team, ABC's World News aired comments by Washington Post media critic Howard Kurtz, in which he said: "Over the years, Imus made fun of blacks, Jews, gays, politicians. He called them lying weasels. This was part of his charm." Kurtz's quote aired shortly after CBS Radio announced it would discontinue broadcasting Imus in the Morning.

Despite Imus' propensity for incendiary remarks, Kurtz has previously been a guest on the Imus program, a fact he acknowledged in his April 12 Washington Post column. Kurtz wrote: "Journalists like me who have gone on Imus's show have done so because we enjoyed the opportunity to talk about politics and media without the stuffiness of so many other programs. And it's probably true that too many of us looked the other way when he went over the line with some of his cruder comedy bits." Yet, as Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting documented, Kurtz wrote in his 1996 book, Hot Air (Crown) that "Imus's sexist, homophobic, and politically incorrect routines echo what many journalists joke about in private."

14. prolly cause there is such a small reach of the program, compared
to Imus who was on a huge tv network, as well as a pretty large radio network/audience.

Frankly, I had *never* heard of Opie and Andy until this incident. I would guess theirs is a fairly small audience. And with a small audience, it takes longer for "outrage" to reach the ears of folks like Sharpton.
