...we are all very frustrated but the mods all seem to be very earnestly trying to fix the bugs.

3. I'm not sure what he qualifications are for the DUzy |
|
But if it's for best poster, that's a tough decision. I see you like Nance. So do I. She is heir apparant to Molly Ivins. I like babylonsister too. She never ceases to inform. What about kpete? How about NNNOLHI? In fact, there are so many great minds here at DU that it would be nearly impossible to choose. I remember that funny post last week about "Caludron of Chaos" That was a classic.

5. As originally conceived, they would be a serious "best of" for the week |
|
That changed after Nance (my SO on the other side of this screen) explained to me that such a thing would be way too subjective, and pushed me to make the DUzies a compendium of DU humor. The great thing to me is that so much of that humor is informed by a scholarly weariness and contempt for what the nation has become, and nails realities, ironies and news items much more succintly than more solemn commentaries often do.
And it's nice to laugh.
You're right, there should be awards for best poster. Better minds than mine would be needed for that project.

10. I was waiting for them and I completely understand the delay. |

Just know that we await them with baited (!) breath.

From Steve Gearhart: “Where does the term baited breath come from, as in: ‘I am waiting with baited breath for your answer’?”
The correct spelling is actually bated breath but it’s so common these days to see it written as baited breath that there’s every chance it will soon become the usual form, to the disgust of conservative speakers and the confusion of dictionary writers. Examples in newspapers and magazines are legion; this one appeared in the Daily Mirror on 12 April 2003: “She hasn’t responded yet but Michael is waiting with baited breath”.
It’s easy to mock, but there’s a real problem here. Bated and baited sound the same and we no longer use bated (let alone the verb to bate), outside this one set phrase, which has become an idiom. Confusion is almost inevitable. Bated here is a contraction of abated through loss of the unstressed first vowel (a process called aphesis); it has the meaning “reduced, lessened, lowered in force”. So bated breath refers to a state in which you almost stop breathing through terror, awe, extreme anticipation, or anxiety.

btw--glad things went okay with the school. i'm glad americans united for separation of church & state stayed in contact with you. i went back to the thread to see how everything went and found a post you had deleted near the end of the thread--so i took the liberty of posting to that one special person...in your absence. (hope you don't mind. see post #349)
