"This is STUPID, let's stop"
Five words a president should be willing to hear.. and to act upon
Bill Moyers' guest said these words, and the more I think of it, these could be the most important words a president could hear or say.
It's not only about war..it could be about anything..

A person who can hear these words, and not "kill the messenger" is likely to be told the truth.. Truth he/she needs to hear.

A person who can, in turn, go to the American people and SAY.."This is STUPID, let's STOP", is NOT a flip-flopper, a waffler, a dilettante, a wobbler, whatever!..

This is a person who can analyze information, realize that things are NOT working out the way the plan indicated..and is brave enough, smart enough to see it , admit it, and set out to fix it.

It could be legislation about trade or energy or war or tax cuts or anything.

If a president does not pay attention to advisers, then there is no need for them, and a president with NO advisers is a dictator.

2. Maybe it's a coke mentality.....
"Wait, just one more hit, then we'll stop."

9. The only difference is that this coke-head doesn't WANT to stop
He wants to do more, and no one is stopping him. Perhaps his inner circle is a little afraid of him, even though they are the ones with the brains.. He's the one with the power and he's a vindictive shit-head.

3. Who was Bill's guest? His show doesn't air in Ga. until Sunday.
I watched it last week, and will continue to watch as long as he's on. I'm so happy PBS hired him back!

BTW, I agree with your post! Even if a leader doesn't want to use those words, they MUST be confident enough, and competent enough, to recognize when things go wrong and be willing to say so and make the necessary changes.

7. They are stuck in Groupthink, no matter how absurd the idea,
they will go along w/it because the "leader" said so.

Groupthink is disastrous no matter where it shows its ugly head. Options do not exist in the Groupthink mentality, and the more people realize they've been duped, they just leave, and most often, remain silent on issues of great importance.

Politics, religion, corporate affairs, bureaucracies, and the like are filled w/Groupthinkers, and we all pay for the lack of vision.

11. Why would they stop? From the Banana Republicans perspective, the war ...
... has been a smashing success. It confused enough people to allow Bush to return to the White House in 2004 with Republican control of Congress, which furthered the agenda of packing the courts with wingnuts and wrecking Federal agencies like FEMA, EPA, and FDA. It has ensured windfall defense industry and oil company profits. The war also distracts attention from other issues and has had many other effects that the corporate ruling class considers desirable. This turkey lays golden eggs for them: they're not about to kill it.
