Want to end the war?
Want to end the war? You can help influence the Senate’s vote on the House’s 60-day war funding bill. You can help embolden Senate Democrats (and frighten Republicans) by showing support for the House Democrats:

A new High Five for Democrats! Reward Democrats in the House for voting to limit funding for the war. Contribute $5—or more, if you can afford it, to the DCCC. Click here to contribute.

From The Hill’s Pundits Blog:

Superwoman Comes to the Supermarket: The Speaker Wins a Big One

Brent Budowsky

The title of this note is taken from Norman Mailer’s famous essay about John Kennedy, which he wrote in 1960 during the Democratic National Convention. It remains one of the most brilliant political writings in history and I heartily recommend that anyone who has not read it should find it. (The article is archived at MakeThemAccountable.com.)

We will soon learn whether Harry Reid can play big-time poker with George Bush on the Iraq war, a subject to be discussed here soon.

For now, a standing ovation for the Speaker, the House Democratic Caucus, the Out Of Iraq Caucus, the Fighting Democrats in the House, and two Republicans who had the courage of their convictions, Walter Jones (N.C.) and Wayne Gilchrest (Md.).

This week, the Speaker played poker, big time. She left the table in triumph, holding the first big pot, in the first truly big hand, of the decisive battles over the Iraq war.

Historians will look back on this week as the beginning of the end of the disaster of our generation…

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) towers 10 points above both the president and the Congress in national approval, and therein lies the message of the moment…

Budowsky is a contributing editor to Fighting Dems News Service and former aide to Sen. Lloyd Bentsen and Bill Alexander, former chief deputy whip of the House. He can be reached at brenbbi@webtv.net and read on The Hill’s Pundits Blog.

1. Money is the only way to get them to represnt us?
Fuck that, that's part of the problem. We're the reason THEY HAVE FUCKING JOBS. You get tips for going above and beyond expectation, not for barely meeting it once.

7. There are a lot more of us ...
... than there are of them. A small amount of money from a lot of people can beat the big guys. In fact, we're already starting to beat them.

Defeatism won't get us anywhere.

8. I don't like it either ...
... but it's the way the game is played right now. We have to win the game before we can change the rules.

4. Did it, and now congratulations to the Co-Founders of
the "Out of Iraq Caucus:" Maxine Waters, Lynn Woolsey, John Conyers, Charlie Rangel, Barbara Lee, Jan Schakowsky, William Delahunt, and John Lewis - as well as to the other 65 members. If your Member of Congress is not in the Caucus, urge her/him to join. We must end this war NOW. Five more of our troops died today.

6. His Assholiness May Choke Off His Own Chicken
Hopefully the manchild will continue to play the "Vetoerererer" and that the Democrats continue to send up one bill after another with timelines and benchmarks. While the boy can play "big man" now...he still has money to burn through at least September...let's see how "strong" he stands by the fall. If he does, he's a bigger fool than the ultimate fool I've always though him to be. He'd then be turning down ANY money and he'd be forced to find another way to fund his invasion and beloved contractors.

His options would be to divert funds from other government agencies and programs, but this is sure to rub raw into one lobby or contributor or another...not a good thing during an election year (especially at that time when a lot of big money is being begged for). Another would be to just spend and wait for the checks to bounce (an option that I would put my money on). No matter...what he robs Peter to pay Paul it's not gonna be enough to maintain the current level of activity...by Christmas his hand could be forced. No money, no more occupation.

Democrats must hang tough and continue to give the asshat the rope to hang himself and his repugnican toadies with.

Just remember that we're dealing with caged tigers here...goons that are cornered with many fires burning around them and willing to do "whatever it takes" to hold onto their power.
