1. Imagine Jon yelling at his guest:
"SHUT UP! SHUT UP! SHUT UP! CUT HIS MIC!"

2. Um, of course not.
He's a comedian. "Unfair" attacks are his bread and butter.

4. The really sad thing is that he can influence elections
I like JS but he is a comedian. His job is to satire everything and that means EVERYTHING. We have young people not doing their research and making voting decisions based off the Daily Show and the Colbert Repor(t).

The dumbing down of the later generations in this country is really working (and I'm a grizzly old 32).

6. You're right, too many are listening to Stewart & ignoring reliable
information sources like Hannity, O'Reilly, and of course Rush. If it weren't for those guys, I'd never know what's really going on.

15. I actually consider them lower than Stewart and Colbert
They don't even qualify as realiable, much less news.

7. The dumbing down of our Country started with Reagan (IMHO)
But the fact is, people (and sheeple) have to get their news and views from somewhere. I'd much rather they get their views from Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert than from Rush Limburgercheese, Sean Insannity or Bill O'Liesalot.

Wouldn't you?

18. Agreed, It's my desire that they'd actually do the research
look up the bills online, learn how thier rep is voting, not wait for JS to come up with some sound bite that while funny isn't an accurate picture of how we each fit into the process from our respective districts.

That's all.

20. I understand what you're saying. Honestly though, there aren't many Americans
who will take the time to do this, thus the popularity of Rush, Hannity & Colmes, Bill O', Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and yes, even the Coultergeist. Too many people can't even be bothered with knowing who their reps are, much less knowing the issues they stand on.

That's what these shuckster politicians depend on... the uninformed sheeple..

10. So, so sad
Why would people listen and respond to Stewart and Colbert using satire to show the problems with current politics and politicians?

It wouldn't actually prompt them to think about issues they may not otherwise consider, would it?

It's not like people in earlier generations ever paved the way for this type of satire and showed how people actually responded effectively to it.

Umm, except for Jonathan Swift and Voltaire and .... oops, I guess that would be a pretty good list.

You'll get used to people pretending you meant something you didn't mean, and that there are only two choices so you obviously prefer whatever other one they've pulled out of their ass.

I happen to agree with you. I don't even find Jon Stewart especially funny, and find Colbert so utterly unfunny it's painful. But then I'm Canadian, and we're used to rather excellent political comedy. I'm not too thrilled about people getting their news 'n views from someone whose goal is to mock everyone, frankly. Fine if you look to it for humour, but not if it is pretty much the sum total of your information gathering.

I'd say to check out Rick Mercer:

for some of the good stuff -- but sadly, most of the humour is probably too local.

9. That ad IS stupid
Is a comdeian fair? Who is running that ad anyway?

If he is a comedian, than the question should be "is he funny?"

Stweart is, and he is good at it. Colbert, too. THAT is fair.

There is always the BBC, the Guardian, even the NYT and CNN if
you are in a hurry. Stewart is entertainment, and mighty fine (fair?)
entertainment at that.

11. It's just an ad for a company that does polls and surveys
many of them being of media personalities.

They didn't single Stewart out. They use various familiar faces on different ads. They have one with Bill O'Reilly asking "Is Bill O'Reilly Fair?" They probably have others. The point is to get your attention. Like those stupid pop-ups on some sites that ask you to vote on whether or not you like Bush.

17. He is a comedian, not a newsman. And he does poke fun at both sides
Its just that there is more to poke at on the "right" side.
