Unbelievable Nigerian Email Scam I just Got
Where do these folks get off the planet?
(and no, my last name isn't Weaver)

Dear Weaver,

I saw your email address and your profile in my search through the internet
while I was craving for a credible person to assist and partner with me in
achieving this my proposition hence I come across your contact and I decide to
work with you in achieving this optimum goal of opportunity since you have the
same last name with our late customer and client who died in a London bomb blast
recently.

My name is Dr Beverley Hunt and I work with a Security and Finance Company here
in United Kingdom. (UK) We had a customer/client (Late Mr. Michael E Weaver,)
that had a deposit Consignment of (Three Million Five Hundred Thousand Pounds
Sterling) Sealed in a Metal Box and Deposited in the Vault of the Security
Company and Registered Under a High Security Hand Cover Insurance Bond which
protects the consignment from any type of Fragmentation and Tampering till it
is released to the prospective beneficiary, Until the death of our client /
customer in the recent bomb blast in central London has no wife nor son or
daughter to claim his assets .

And since his death, the Security and finance Company has been expecting his/her
next of kin for the claim of his deposited assets of inheritance in the deposit
of the Security Company but till now none has surfaced. The policy of the
Security Company however stipulates a limited time period for such inheritance
to be claimed or the deposit will be written off and returned to the British
State Treasury as unclaimed going by the record of the incident, the time limit
for the claim is drawing closer.

In this consideration, I am contacting you to seek for your kind understanding
and sincere co-operation to claim this inheritance for our mutual benefit If you
can stand as the next of kin since you have the same last name with our late
client /customer and which makes the claim more credible ,Success is assured
because I am in possession of the copies of the personal file jacket of the
deceased which contains every needed information about the deposit and Also
have it in mind that the transaction is meant to take place legitimately and
legally to a constitutional and lawful conclusion which makes it risk and hitch
free transaction because I have enough information to support you in claiming
the deposit and making you the bonafide beneficiary of the inheritance according
to the demand of the British Law.

As far as frank efforts have being made to reach any of his relations for this
claim and it was all abortive by this an ORDER OF MANDAMUS by law was secured by
me to present and produce any person with legal proof as the inheritor based on
this I contacted you and I am ready to supply you with every legal information’s
needed for this claim as well. The proceedings of the transaction will be shared
50% each after expenses are reimbursed. Kindly indicate your willingness as this
happened urgent and let us grab it fast before it expires.

The entire project is expected to last for about ten working days. Please let me
have your mobile/fax numbers for effective communication.

Please you are much welcome to come in person to (U.K ) for the claim to enable
us meet face to face and finalize everything here with our Security Company so
that the Consignment Deposit will be released to you as you may deem fit
enough. Finally i will use my position in the Security Comapny to destroy every
transactional file after the consignment must have being released to you so that
there will be no tress.

Your sincere and quick positive response in anticipation.
Best Regards.
Dr.Beverley Hunt

4. Consider yourself lucky
It's called 419 after the relevant article of the Nigerian Criminal Code, and I've had thousands, mainly in my old job. I think it's rather fun, since the intention is usually to con people who are: (a) exceptionally stupid; and (b) willing to profit from (non-existent) crooked bank transfers from extremely poor countries. I wish the perpetrators the best of luck.

Yours is unusual in purporting to relate to a UK account. Now that's really stupid! :D

I get quite a few addressing the UK banks. This is in addition to the umpteen lotteries I win every day. I'm a trillionaire!

7. I liked the ones starting "Hello Dear"!!
I regularly threatened to quit my job on the spot on the basis that my email address had just won a multi-million cash draw that I'd never entered. Worked every time. Except one. :D

9. I have so many Ipods, wide screen TVs and laptops that I dont' know what to do with them all.
Once they arrive, my Cote d'Ivoire account should be settled soon -- it seems to be taking forever since the son of the slain millionaire cocoa plantation urgently appealed to me as a fellow Xian to help him get his father's estate.

I am getting a little antsy, as the gold bullion I was promised (the new $200 Canadian solid gold coins are not being tracked by FexEd like M. Rene promised. . . where shall I put all those electronics until I get my warehouse built?

15. Especially since the "Dr." can't use spell check, and has a
pretty dismal way of writing, considering she is "British"...there are English teachers that are trying to prevent their heads from exploding as they read that...

the money since my last name is Weaver and because I shall be able to travel with my brother who happens to be Michael Weaver, the same as the deceased. He can take 10 days off from his job as Sheriff if you are sure it can all be done within 10 days.

11. That's uncharitable
Some are gems of historical fiction. I've been mailed by just about every dead African dictator/millionaire's son/banker, and now have enough to write an imaginary inside story of the continent. Someone should compile them into a docusoap.

12. There are "scambaiting" websites devoted to having a little fun with these guys.
Some of them will go to great lengths to try to hook you.

16. That site is HILARIOUS!
Messin' with the scammers' heads and wasting their time. What an idea.

Question.
OK. I have the scammer on board, but now he's asking me for my bank details. What do I do?!

Answer.

Don't panic! Just send him any old rubbish. Make up a bank name of your own (my personal favourite is Plunder & Flee Incorporated, feel free to use it yourself and make P&F world famous!). Random account numbers and bank addresses are fine also. You could use a real address if you prefer (not your own of course). I did a scam posing as Dr. Frasier Crane, and the address I gave was the real address for the Seattle Tower in Washington! Remember to cross check the details you have sent if you have to send multiple forms. You don't want a scammer coming back to you asking why your bank account number doesn't match up on the forms you sent to him!

What usually happens is that your account and personal details will be used to make up phoney documents to send back to you. The usual procedure being that a gullible person would believe these documents to be the real thing, and then you would be so taken in that when the scammer asks you for money to help facilitate the release of the funds, you will part with your cash without too much hesitation.

Question.
I've sent them my bank details etc. and now they are asking me to make a payment to them. HELP!

Answer.

This is where you need to get some plans together. You could try some delaying tactics, or make some excuse or other why you cannot pay right now. This is the part of the scam where you really need to have planned out beforehand what hoops to make your victim jump through. Personally, I like to pretend to pay using false documents. Of course, as soon as they try to draw the funds they realise the documents are no good, but at least you've wasted some of their time. HERE is a fake Western Union Money Transfer document I sent off to a scammer.

Maybe you can convince your victim that you'll be coming over to his country to complete the deal. Again, make up some false flight booking documents like THIS and let him think he's meeting you at the airport. To get realistic looking flight details, just go to your local online booking site. Go through the booking procedure, do a screen capture, load into your favourite graphics editing program (I use Photoshop) and away you go! Perhaps on your way to make your payment to the scammer you suffered a GHASTLY MOTOR ACCIDENT, which might have even been printed in a (fake) NEWSPAPER?!

18. Greed - Missile of Black Gold
My article of the above title appeared online in 1996 and was archived at

http://koti.netplaza.fi/~findians/Briefings/Archives/articles.html#Greed-MissileofBlackGold

I have had hundreds of thank you letters over the years thanking me for the info.

I do get several of these fraud notices still but the methods have changed quite dramatically, so be wary of any email promising easy money or, in fact, any money!
