Nevada Governor Faces FBI Probe
http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2007/02/15/nevada-governor-faces-fbi-probeFederal prosecutors are investigating whether Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons accepted unreported gifts or payments from a company that was awarded secret military contracts when Mr. Gibbons served in Congress.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is examining whether any gifts or payments violated federal contracting rules or were offered in exchange for official acts by Mr. Gibbons, people briefed on the investigation said. Mr. Gibbons, a Republican, represented Nevada for five terms in Congress, where he served on the House Intelligence and Armed Services committees, and was sworn in as governor last month.
The close ties between the congressman and the contractor, Warren Trepp, were disclosed in a Nov. 1 Wall Street Journal article ...
http://votegibbonsout.blogs.com/votegibbonsout/Gibbons_...New evidence has emerged that includes emails .... Mr. Gibbons, who helped eTreppid get no-bid software contracts from the Air Force, U.S. Special Operations Command and Central Intelligence Agency. Messrs. Trepp and Gibbons have denied any wrongdoing, and no charges have been filed....
On March 22, 2005, days before Mr. Trepp and his wife embarked on the Caribbean cruise with the congressman and his family, Jalé Trepp sent a reminder to her husband. “Please don’t forget to bring the money you promised Jim and Dawn,” referring to Mr. and Mrs. Gibbons. Minutes later, Mr. Trepp responds, “Don’t you ever send this kind of message to me! Erase this message from your computer right now!” Mr. Gibbons failed to disclose the cruise and travel on Mr. Trepp’s leased private jet, as required by House ethics rules....

Gibbons always there for his friend Trepp

When eTreppid wanted a meeting with the National Security Agency, then-Congressman Jim Gibbons arranged it . When eTreppid, a company owned by Gibbons' friend Warren Trepp, wanted introductions to Defense Department officials or Asa Hutchinson, a top Homeland Security official, Gibbons obliged.
When the company had trouble getting payment from a government agency, Gibbons intervened.
Indeed, Gibbons was so concerned about aiding eTreppid that he passed on a special e-mail address so a company executive could contact him directly, bypassing congressional staff. "Dawn has given you the correct e-mail address for me here in D.C.," Gibbons wrote, referring to his wife, Dawn Gibbons. "That e-mail address is a direct link to my desk and does not go through anyone else." ..........
Trepp and his business entities contributed $90,000 to Gibbons' campaign for governor.
Gibbons and Trepp strongly deny any wrongdoing. They say they're old friends interested in nothing more than protecting the security of the United States. .................

UNREPORTED GIFTS: Gibbons denies FBI probe
Report: Investigation focuses on military contractor friend
By ED VOGEL
http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2007/Feb-16-Fri-2007/news/12633857.htmlIn a 2003 e-mail, eTreppid executive Len Glogauer told Warren Trepp that Gibbons had been helpful in securing a contract for the company and "we need to take care of him like we discussed," according to The Wall Street Journal.
Gibbons said he knew nothing about the e-mails.
Trepp, through his companies, contributed $90,000 to Gibbons' gubernatorial campaign last year.
Gibbons said the messages might have been about those donations.
"I would never take money to do something my job obligated me to do, to promote the safety and welfare of the people of Nevada and this country," Gibbons said. .........
