FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Press contact: Eric Young, NRDC, 202-289-2373 or eyoung@nrdc.org

WASHINGTON (July 20, 2010) -- More than 1,100 U.S. counties -- a full one-third of all counties in the lower 48 states -- now face higher risks of water shortages by mid-century as the result of global warming, and more than 400 of these counties will be at extremely high risk for water shortages, based on estimates from a new report by Tetra Tech for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)

5. No, I mean now ...
I wonder how many of these counties currently, and reliably, vote for conservative GOP members who claim climate change is a hoax.

Conservatives often talk about cutting the deficit to "protect their children's future". I bet their kids will need water.

6. That's exactly what I thought of!
I hope all of the counties affected are in places that "don't believe in" climate change, so they can "not believe in" the people around them dying of thirst. All better now!

8. add to that the grim reality that those counties that do still have water by that time
will be so polluted it probably won't be safe to drink anyways.

9. It's an easy crisis to ignore until too late
The problem with doing anything at all about climate change is by the time the bad stuff hits, it will be way too late.

In fact, it's already way too late to do anything to stop serious global temperature increases, and to prevent some of the worst effects arising from this.

I fully expect that, on this issue, our political and business leaders will work to keep everyone's heads firmly buried in the increasingly dry sand as long as possible.
