To direct people's attention away from the financial reform bill that got signed into law today.
The RW fears this legislation will be very popular with the majority, so they pull out the Brown stuff at just the right moment and hope the media will swarm to it like flies to shit, which they did. Many casual observers of the "news" probably don't even realize this bill was passed today...
Mission accomplished.
