Haven't been this mad since Reagan.
The whole Sherrod incident has tipped me over the edge I think. I am just so damn angry at the right wing loonies, the weakness of the Obama administration, the war in Afghanastan, the occupation of Iraq, corporations being greedy bastards, etc... that it all makes me want to cry. It really feels like that things are going down the tubes in this country. I remember all of the rhetoric that Reagan used to use and I see the exact same thing happening again. I lived through it once and I really hate the fact that I have to live through it again.

1. A Dumbed Numbed Country...
This is worse than anything during the Raygun years. While there was a loony fringe they were nowhere near as visible. There was no rushbo or faux noise and there was still some integrity within the "mainstream" media...at least they would check facts before airing wild rumors.

This admiistration needs to break out of it's fear of the "mighty wurlitzer"...they're reacting rather than being proactive. To some degree this is due to the messes they've had to clean up, but its also their growing paranoia about what people will say...specifically their adversaries. The people are getting tired and numbed to all the rhetoric and are pissed at all parties...unfortunately that opens the door to more apathy; the biggest problem facing this country today.

Cheers...

3. I agree
This administration is so scared of hurting the feelings of the loonies that it's pathetic.

4. It's depressing
the worst thing for me is seeing a Democratic administration fall for all this stuff, they are so weak and unwilling to challenge the right and yet so willing to diss anything or anyone on the left. The right has always been looney and mean it should have been expected and met with some reason and distain instead of bowing to them.

7. Meaning that politically they aren't progressive
They have been far more conservative than Democrats from past administrations.

They have clearly succeeded.

10. Sad but true
They are trying to appeal to a wider audience, and by doing that they have lost their soul.

9. I disagree, but only because you said 30 years ago instead of 50
30 years ago we had Ronald Reagan, the worst President in the history of the nation. I think you wanted to go back to either Eisenhower or Nixon. Then I would have agreed with you.

12. It is bad, but I can imagine several things worse.
President elect Sarah Palin in November 2012 would make wish for the most dire end of world predictions of December 2012.

16. Actually I will work for Obama once again.
I have never missed a vote in 40 years and have only voted for one Republican Senator (I detest Warren Hearnes) Obama needs to be Obama, we need leadership other than Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi that will not deter me from being a Democrat to my last breath.

Sarah Palin or for that matter any of the idiot teabagger quasi fascist in the Whitehouse would be a disaster of unimaginable proportions.

19. What was wrong with Governor Hearnes?
Having lived in an area where I could tune in to 4 different Missouri TV stations (5 on a good day), I often heard news about Governor Warren Hearnes back in the '60s and '70s, but he seemed to be a pretty decent governor as far as I could tell. After retiring from the governorship, Hearnes ran for Senate in 1976 as a substitute for Jerry Litton, who had died in a plane crash right after winning the Democratic nomination for the US Senate race. I remember that episode rather well since it was being compared with what happened to RFK right after he had won the California primary just 8 years before. Anyway, Hearnes' Republican opponent, Jack Danforth, didn't strike me as the kind of guy I would have voted for.

20. Hearnes ..... well!
Harry Truman publicly said there were two politicians he encountered in his career he could not stand; Richard Nixon and Warren Hearnes. My Grandfather who was a personal friend of Harry Truman could bear witness to specifics if he were alive as for me I will leave that alone. I grant that Hearnes was not responsible for having sabotaged the crankshaft on Jerry Litton's plane the night he won the Democratic Senate Primary and was killed, but I remember Hearnes in that election and will never forget his mouth. At the time it seemed possible. There are two incidents for me that characterize what Hearnes was about:

As a teenager I watched the Department of Conservation slaughter hundreds of Purple Martins on the grounds of the Governors mansion because Hearnes was too damn stupid to know the difference between Starlings and Purple Martins. After the deed was done Hearnes stayed true to his political instincts and assessed blame.

When Agnew was cornered Hearnes the lawyer came to the defense of Spiro Agnew and his innocence, both demagogues of the same flock.

As for John Danforth I never voted for him again, nor have I voted for another Republican.

14. I was polled tonight by a RW agency...
Magellan Strategies. Of course I said I was a Democrat, that I would vote for the Democratic candidate ( Patty Murray) blah, blah, blah...
But to the question as to whether I was satisfied with Murray and Obama I said "No."

Yes, it is all very discouraging. But, what you saw with Reagan didn't start happening again recently. It's been happening to you for the last
few decades. It's the realization that things are not going to change, that's the heartbreaker. Why haven't you been this mad since Reagan?
You mean to say you weren't this mad during the Bush Admin? If not, why not?
