What the hell happened? Check out their praise for Rachel Maddow's report on Fox News and racism.

2. Yeah, I looked at the site some months ago...
I was pleasantly surprised by the "refudiation" of some real anti-Muslim, teabaggery insanity going on there.

3. I think they are trying to find some sane republicans among the
hordes of crazies. Good luck to them.

Rather stare at my own ass-crack in a mirror.

7. Well, staring at your own ass crack is doomed to be
surprising.At least that's my opinion.

The first couple of threads on LGF are praise for Rachel Maddow and calling out Sarah Palin for being a "race baiter". I don't know about you, but I find that surprising.

8. Look at some of the headlines.
Edited on Thu Jul-22-10 09:19 AM by drm604
  • "Time to Reopen Breitbart's ACORN Fraud"
  • "Sarah Palin: Doubling Down on Bigotry"
  • "Right Wing Blog Spews Racist Hatred at Shirley Sherrod"
  • "The NAACP Was Conned by Andrew Breitbart"
Definitely not what I would have expected.

happened which shook them out of their crazies.

14. Apparently it was originally non-political
and became political after 9/11.

One possibility is that it's simply opportunist and goes with whatever they think will bring in the most traffic. They have Amazon banners all over the place.

16. johnson had a falling out with his spawn (spencer and geller)
that turned into a flame war between all three sites. It started with geller and spencer getting in bed with euro neo-fascists, which apparently crossed the line with Johnson and he threw them off the LGF bus. That was the start of Johnson's "transformation".

19. Why I (Charles Johnson) Parted Ways With The Right
Why I Parted Ways With The Right
by Charles Johnson

Opinion | Mon, Nov 30, 2009 at 6:49:45 pm PST

1. Support for fascists, both in America (see: Pat Buchanan, Robert Stacy McCain, etc.) and in Europe (see: Vlaams Belang, BNP, SIOE, Pat Buchanan, etc.)

2. Support for bigotry, hatred, and white supremacism (see: Pat Buchanan, Ann Coulter, Robert Stacy McCain, Lew Rockwell, etc.)

3. Support for throwing women back into the Dark Ages, and general religious fanaticism (see: Operation Rescue, anti-abortion groups, James Dobson, Pat Robertson, Tony Perkins, the entire religious right, etc.)

4. Support for anti-science bad craziness (see: creationism, climate change denialism, Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, James Inhofe, etc.)

5. Support for homophobic bigotry (see: Sarah Palin, Dobson, the entire religious right, etc.)

6. Support for anti-government lunacy (see: tea parties, militias, Fox News, Glenn Beck, etc.)

7. Support for conspiracy theories and hate speech (see: Alex Jones, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Birthers, creationists, climate deniers, etc.)

8. A right-wing blogosphere that is almost universally dominated by raging hate speech (see: Hot Air, Free Republic, Ace of Spades, etc.)

9. Anti-Islamic bigotry that goes far beyond simply criticizing radical Islam, into support for fascism, violence, and genocide (see: Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer, etc.)

10. Hatred for President Obama that goes far beyond simply criticizing his policies, into racism, hate speech, and bizarre conspiracy theories (see: witch doctor pictures, tea parties, Birthers, Michelle Malkin, Fox News, World Net Daily, Newsmax, and every other right wing source)

And much, much more. The American right wing has gone off the rails, into the bushes, and off the cliff.

I won’t be going over the cliff with them.

9. He has done a turnaround
He stopped supporting Bush a year or so before he was out of office.

It's pretty strange. Not sure that I trust the guy's agenda though.

11. Well, I'm sure he's still a republican.I'm really hoping against hope
that there may be lots of republicans out there who are mortified by what their party has become. I have no expectations, but I can hope.

12. The guy that runs it
can't remember his name, had an epiphany of sorts a while ago. He was getting tired of the racist and threatening tone of comments on stories on the blog.

He, or someone, would put up something conservative but compared to the shitstorm in the conservative blogosphere fairly benign and the commenter's would come on and start threatening the blacks, the latinos, the gays etc.

He really seems to have turned his entire attitude around, kind of like David Brock at mediamatters.
