For the first time EVER
I did not defend a Dem President. My (usually very Democratic) sister and I were having lunch. As we did, we got talking about politics. She mentioned a MI GOP guv candidate, who claims he is a "nerd," and that is why he should be elected - she was thinking of voting for him. I was surprised, but only mentioned he was a Repuke.

Then, she mentioned an email she got about Obama: that he had canceled the National Day of Prayer, but went to a Muslim function. Normally, I would have engaged in a discussion with her about how this info is misleading. But, you know, I worked hard in '08 from Obama - and believed he would do some of the things he promised. As a result, I feel played by him, since I look like a fool for telling others to support the guy (our Republican majority county voted for him, perhaps in part because of my letters to the editor, etc).

So - I said nothing. I told her instead that I found it hard to support this guy anymore. Time after time, I have been told that I just needed to wait and see, give him time etc. Read my blog if you wanna know what my predictions and reactions have been.

Carl Levin, one of my Dem US Senators, just came out for MORE cruise missile strikes (aka mass murders) in Pakistan.

Debbie Stabenow, my other Dem US Senator, supported the bankruptcy bill a few years ago, which has added to the pain of this Depression. My emails to her drew only a form letter, not really responsive to my concerns.

I hope there is a primary challenge to each and every one of these 3. I am a lefty liberal, always a Dem. But I wont support Big Business, mass murder, and dumping on the poor.

Obama is losing his base fast - and spreading it down to the state and local level. I wonder why? Yeah, I really wonder why?

17. Yup, the divide and conquer propaganda is working out well for them.
Thank you for saying what you needed to say. You are doing the cheerleaders a favor by showing what is happening in this country politically.

They ignore your words at their own peril.

8. I know what you mean
I expect to have to agitate, organize, educate and resist when some lizard brain like George W. Bush is in the White House, trying to dress up mass murder and a dysfunctional government that serves only the haves and the have mores. It's really discouraging to see ostensibly Democratic office-holders extending, refining and supporting some of the worst policies of the Bush years.

Right now, a lot of Democratic political operatives are worried about November and how motivated the nitwits are on behalf of the Republicans. That same fervor can be re-created on the Democratic side of the aisle by simply supporting, enacting and implementing policies designed to make government work better for more people. I think the overrich have been served enough. It's past time to start working on behalf of the millions of people who voted in 2008 to install a new administration that's going to do new and different things.

9. Always correct idiocy. Number one rule of life.
The thing about a National Day of Prayer isn't "misleading," it's an outright lie, and you passed up a chance to demonstrate to someone basing her opinions on nonsense that her side lies constantly and she shouldn't trust them. It's odd that someone who usually votes Democrat would even begin to believe things like that without researching Snopes immediately.

Take them on, post facts, show them down. If you've got the facts, what can they do but whine? And who cares if someone who can't post facts whines?

27. You're not guessing. You're snarking.
You know perfectly well the comment was far broader than race. But you appear to have some need to pile on because it was said. And that's fine. I'm not criticizing you for that. Just trying to be honest and having you be the same. So far, we're all still free to say or do as we please so long as we obey the law and aren't mean to people.

You have your view. Others have theirs.

You think their views suck. They think your views suck. That's called an impasse. Good people reach those and agree to cordially disagree.

That's what I'm doing here. Cordially disagreeing with you.

This conversation is over because conversations take two people, and I am no longer paying attention to you. Neither do I have any intention to reengage with you.

I do, however, hope that you have a really swell day and get all the good things you wish for.

Buh bye.

29. I know that if Mr. Obama were a white man this nonsense wouldn't be happening.
Because he's a black man (gasp with fear) he's scary!!! And because his father is African, all sorts of scary things are said about President Obama, including about his religion, since many people of African origin are Muslim, even though President Obama's father happened NOT to be Muslim.

Bottom line, race is at the core of these RW lying emails that make their rounds and every single Democrat should correct those lies.

THAT is what I think.

26. I would be perfectly happy to never engage with you again.
You twisted what I said and made it about race. It was not. But I am certain that doesn't fit your agenda. So please feel free to make it about anything you wish. I'm okay with that.

By the way, our conversation is ended because conversations take two people, and I am disengaging.

In closing, however, please allow me to express my hope that you have a really terrific day. :hi:
