Would you prefer that the DU login page be https instead of http? |
|
There's at least one search engine that uses https for privacy and security: https://www.ixquick.com/eng/power-search.html

1. I'd prefer to have Clanrence Thomas' signature on file to make sure it's not forged. |

5. A login page and a search engine are not the same. |
|
However "https" is appropriate for logins or purchases or anywhere else that identity (passwords and other sensitive data) is disclosed.
That said, it's not particularly important to me. No one is going to be able to discover my social security # or bank pin # when I login to any internet forum. I am not stupid enough to use a password that I employ to blather on in an internet forum as the password to my banking info or other private info.
If the govt wants to find one's records by seizing one's computer or gaining access to their internet records, they probably can. As disturbing as this may be (and it is VERY disturbing,) identity thieves do not share this access.
