Geithner Refuses To Endorse Elizabeth Warren To Lead Consumer Protection Agency
Geithner Refuses To Say Whether He'd Be Happy With Warren Leading Consumer Agency (VIDEO)
07-22-10

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner conspicuously stopped short of endorsing Elizabeth Warren to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Thursday morning. And while he praised her for her effective advocacy on behalf of consumers, he also refused to say whether he would be happy if she got the job.

<snip>

Indeed, it is something of an open secret in Washington that there is no love lost between the two. And the Huffington Post reported last week that according to one unnamed source, Geithner has privately expressed his opposition to her nomination.

Geithner on Thursday said the leader of the agency should bring credibility and "fresh perspective" to the job. And he called Warren "one of the most effective advocates for reform in the country." He acknowledged her role as a champion of those who "view the system as fundamentally broken."

Nevertheless, it seems likely that the only way Warren will get the job is if Geithner is overruled.

Wall Street says so.

3. I'm optimistic because there's been such a large public support for her --
Obama's aware of the criticisms of some of his former appointees, I think he may heed the people on this one.

5. Already decided - she's out
Dodd says she's "unconfirmable". The Republican 41-vote majority in the Senate is crippling.

8. the way the law is written... she doesn't need senate confirmation:

1. There is no deadline for Obama to act... Geithner could put her in-place on his own authority... see: Elizabeth Warren Could Head CFPB Without Senate Confirmation - ref: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/19/elizabeth-warren-could-he_n_651759.html

2. Sign this petition - for Elizabeth Warren to be our watchdog - and pass it on! - ref: http://pol.moveon.org/warren/

7. More shit from Huffington Post...
why am I not surprised.

"Indeed, it is something of an open secret in Washington that there is no love lost between the two. And the Huffington Post reported last week that according to one unnamed source, Geithner has privately expressed his opposition to her nomination."

Pure specious rumor-mongering with no facts in hand, quite Breitbartish of the Huffington Post.

"Geithner on Thursday said the leader of the agency should bring credibility and "fresh perspective" to the job. And he called Warren "one of the most effective advocates for reform in the country." He acknowledged her role as a champion of those who "view the system as fundamentally broken."

Quoting Geithner positive comments, actual quotes, in which he speaks very well of her followed by:

Nevertheless, it seems likely that the only way Warren will get the job is if Geithner is overruled."

Even more egregious speculation not only not based on any facts but IGNORING Geithner's actual quotes.

Disgusting but not surprising coming from a site in which Breitbart was heavily involved in setting up.

10. Not kidding at all but not surprised you are 'shocked'....
Researching is always a good thing to do. Huffington Post and Breitbart have much in common which is not surprising given Breitbart was a key player in the beginnings of HuffPo. Now that, one would think, would merit a :wow: but, sadly, it seems not, instead it is ignored. I wonder why?

11. I don't want Geithner to be happy. Obama promised a team of rivals
here's another chance for him to live up to a promise...or not.

12. Obama's team of rivals are all pro-imperialist, pro-Wall Street
People like Geithner and Summers would not have been part of a truly progressive Administration.

13. He meant rivals, as in, "various Goldman Sachs executives".

14. I don't know if this is true or not,
but Tim Geithner reminds me of my former law school classmates who acted as though they hadn't passed kindergarten.

He'll probably hold his breath until Obama tells him that E. Warren is out.

The biggest mark against her, though, is that she isn't one of the boys.

That was Brooksley Borne's problem when she told Bill Clinton, Summers, Rubin and the gang back in the '90s that derivatives were dangerous and should be regulated.

You know what happened there, and some of the same suspects from that time are still hanging around the White House or on the speed dial.

16. I have no love for Geithner, but regardless of his personal feelings...
his statements are a practical endorsement, and I suspect that they reflect the administration's stance on her assuming the job.

This is HuffPo just trying to stir up shit.
