2. Question about the Howard Stern quote
Edited on Sun May-13-07 09:29 PM by Eric J in MN

Howard Stern - Radio Host: "I hate to break it to you, but there is no God. Here's what happens when you die you sit in a box and get eaten by worms. I guarantee you that when you die, nothing cool happens. . . I'm sickened by all religions. Religion has divided people. I don't think there's any difference between the pope wearing a large hat and parading around with a smoking purse and an African painting his face white and praying to a rock."

What is a "smoking purse"?

5. Another bogus quote attributed to Mr Lincoln. . .
He was one of the finest literary minds of this nation, and a politician without equal. It would be nice, when people fabricate quotes and attribute them to Mr Lincoln, if they would at least give him words he'd conceivably say, ideas he'd possibly share publicly. On both scores, there's no doubt this quote is neither the words nor thoughts of Mr Lincoln.

Almost every word Mr Lincoln ever wrote, every verifiable quote attributed to him by others, can be found at The Abraham Lincoln Association website, in their fully searchable database, "The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln" -- http://quod.lib.umich.edu/l/lincoln/

Additional, newly-found documents can be found at http://www.papersofabrahamlincoln.org/ a collaborative project of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.

In addition, there are numerous other sites of Lincolniana to be found on the web, many of which strive for accuracy in the depiction of Mr Lincoln's life and works.
