Judge refuses bail to armed protester

WASHINGTON -

http://www.examiner.com/printa-711301~Judge_refuses_bail_to_armed_protester.html

A D.C. Superior Court judge refused on Friday to offer bail to the man police say brought a rifle and two knives to a counter protest of an immigration rally on May 1.

Tyler Froatz II, an Eagle scout and District resident for the past 18 months, will be held in police custody until a May 17 court date after Judge John Hess expressed concern over whether Froatz posed a threat to the area.

Police say that on Tuesday, Froatz, was counter protesting at an immigration rally in Meridian Hill Park when he became embroiled in a fight with immigration rally organizer. According to police, Froatz bent the organizer's left arm and scratched her hand, before leaving the area to don dark camouflage clothing. Police arrived and arrested Froatz and found a host of weapons on him including a hammer, taser, and a loaded flare gun. In addition, Detective Robert Freeman of the U.S. Park Police testified that Froatz was carrying two knives including a "12 inch dagger-style knife."

A search of Froatz's nearby Jeep recovered a loaded M-1 rifle and ammunition. A map of a local embassy and a detailed, hand-drawn sketch of the park with lines pointing towards the center of the protest was found in the front seat of the Jeep, Freeman said.

But those items were overshadowed by what investigators discovered in Froatz's apartment in the 5300 block of 8 th St. NW. Freeman described a home bristling with a variety of bladed weapons, 13 guns and more than 2,000 rounds of ammunition. Froatz did not have a permit for the guns which include a fully-loaded 12-gauge shotgun and a .45-caliber pistol.

Police also discovered an explosive resembling a Molotov cocktail. The cocktail was found in a Welch's grape juice bottle wrapped in a t-shirt and appeared to be a mix of gasoline with a jelly-like substance which if it exploded would stick to a person "like napalm," Freeman explained.

Kristinn Taylor, a friend of Froatz who attended the hearing, expressed shock that the "nonthreatening," and chatty 24-year-old could hurt anyone.

"Like a lot of people who feel strongly about the immigration issue, he was out protesting," Taylor said, who added Froatz was not working for Free Republic during his protest.

"He didn't say anything about killing illegals or nothing like that."

67. Someone ought to search Mr. Kristinn Taylor's apartment too.
So this makes up the Washington DC contingent of Frei Republik?

Oh Ghod, so a friend of the Frei Republik contingent gets caught with a lot of guns and Ammo at a Demonstration and at home and he has no permit?

Well that shows you how Frei Republik respects people in our country? What? Mr. Taylor says Mr. Froats does not represent Frei Republik? Oooo that apears a laugh. And just who did Mr. Froats show up with for the Counter protest? The Boy Scouts? Nope, Frei Republik.

3. When does RimJob start serving time for terrorism?
I mean, the SHAC7 are currently locked up for running a website that might have suggested people taking nonviolent action against targets. So if this shitwad actually started making bombs and stocking ammo, I'd say that's a pretty cut 'n dried case in comparison. Where is the FreeRepublic 2, and why aren't they in jail?

The chronically-confused Kristinn Taylor's closing remarks: "He was ALWAYS talking about striking a blow against liberals, immigrants, gays and anyone else he could, as we all were. Now that he has his ass in a sling, we are throwing him under the bus!"

Just sayin'. Not sticking up for them, but what that kid did, he did on his own.

The NRA routinely tells its' membership to obey the law pertaining to registering and purchasing firearms.

And the mental state of the person in question has never been adjudicated, as far as I know.

but why don't we have a DUer of the Year Award?

What an honor the Freeper of the Year must be. Makes me think of the Laff-In skit "Fickled Finger of Fate". He probably received it in recognition of his "porta-potties to protesters ratio". "Vote Kristin: More Porta-potties per person than any other Freaker"

Chimpy will be giving him his Medal of Freedom any day now.

...what are they going to do when one of their hate-lathered followers actually goes psycho and goes and kills someone. Which given their comical luck will likely end up being another conservative they mistook for a liberal/immigrant/whatever because of some completely off the wall prejudice.

They should take this incident as a wake up call.

where this overly-proud and underly-intelligent Freeper can spend some intimate time with people he idealogically hates.

If this had happened in, say, South Dakota, he wouldn't have broken a single gun law.

82. Checked the link to an earlier article, never expecting to see this!
An immigration supporter said he wasn't surprised by the discovery, especially after seeing a flier that witnesses said Froatz handed out at the rally.

The flier apparently depicted graphic pictures of pregnant women being shot by soldiers.

74. Question for the firearm-owners
(And it's not even loaded, pardon the pun.)

Any time I see a story about a cache of firearms being found in someone house/car/pants/etc, there's usually a reference to somewhere between hundreds and thousands of rounds of ammunition. I know little about the costs of firearms and less about the cost of their ammo, but would those kinds of figures be out of the ordinary for firearms enthusiasts - say, someone who owns one or a few guns and goes to the range every weekend or something, as opposed to this delightful individual?

I figure the amount of weapons the guy had in his apartment is going to be unusual for anyone who isn't a pretty avid collector. I'm curious about how unusual the stash of ammunition is.

81. It's usually a lot cheaper to buy ammo in bulk
I have ~5000 rds of loaded ammo in my apartment, but it is mostly .22LR for plinking and target practice. .22 ammo is cheap ($10/500 rds), and the last time Cabela's had a sale and I had a coupon, I stocked up. I might grab another 5000 next time they have a sale again and I have a coupon.

I also have the reloading supplies for ~2000 rds of ammo for my AR-15 (civilian copy of the M-16), which amounts to 7 lbs of gunpowder, 2000 bullets, 500 empty brass cases, and 2000 primers.

Basically I have a life supply of ammo :)

I figure the amount of weapons the guy had in his apartment is going to be unusual for anyone who isn't a pretty avid collector. I'm curious about how unusual the stash of ammunition is.

I generally go through 200 rounds in a couple hours at the range, so 1000 rounds will cover 5 trips to the range. That's if I go by myself. If I go with my wife, or my sister (both of whom are also shooters), multiply that by 1.5 or 2.

It also makes sense from a financial standpoint to buy ammunition in bulk, particularly since my wife's guns and mine are the same calibers (9mm and 7.62x39mm). I generally buy target-practice 9mm in the 100-round value-packs at Wally World, 2 or 3 at a time, and we buy 7.62x39mm by the half-case (600 rounds).

For someone who owns a .22LR, the ammunition is usually sold by the brick, which is a small box (smaller than a real brick) containing 500 rounds, costs $10-$15.

My wife and I own 6 or 8 guns between us, which is a lot less than we would have if we didn't have medical bills out the wazoo (our 8 y.o. is a cardiac kid). Probably half of those would be described by a clueless MSM reporter as "assault weapons."

So when the media breathlessly reports that somebody has "5 guns" and "assault weapons" and "400 rounds of ammunition" (or even a couple thousand), that falls squarely in the ho-hum realm.

Now if those guns are illegal machineguns, real assault rifles rather than civilian-legal lookalikes, or there are bombs or rocket launchers involved, then it would raise eyebrows, since possession of any of those without Federal authorization is a 10-year felony.

98. The freaknutpubics have infiltrated examiner.com.
Examiner Reader said:
Let me see, this guy is between the age of 18 and 27, and he keeps a kit ready, so he can go to war in a short notice, if needed. This is the USA, and the US Constitution protects the right to keep and bear arms, and also to be in a militia, in order to defend the Constitution. Our nation, including Washington, DC, has been violently attacked, by foreign terrorists, and we can expect repeat attacks any moment. This nut is also a Boy Scout, who attained the rank of Eagle, making him more than capable to handle sharp objects, firearms, and flammable liquids. He is well trained to be prepared, to serve his country and fellow citizens. I would say he is in the militia, and his actions and inventory are justified and lawful. If anyone sees it differently, then our nation is in serious trouble. If he is in a militia, and one person can be a militia, then he cannot be tried in civil or criminal court, during wartime. He should face a court martial, if he did anything wrong.

Short notice nothing. This freaknutjob can go to war right now by signing his name on the dotted line.

When did they start teaching scouts how to manufacture Molotov cocktails?

Ok, the scouts have court martials????

What the response of his parents when they found out their whackjob son turned their basement into an Eagle Scout armory?
