Even conservative group Ayn Rand Org admits US is not a Christian Nation and Founders were Deist
Edited on Sun Jul-25-10 11:27 AM by Quixote1818
This is about the only thing I like about Ayn Rand Org.

The Founding Fathers on Religion

As the quotes on this page illustrate, the claim that America was founded on Christianity is a myth. Many of the Founding Fathers and Revolutionary War leaders were Deists, and upheld a firm separation of church and state.

Webster's New World Dictionary -- Third College Edition

Deism: (1) The belief in the existence of a God on purely rational grounds without reliance on revelation or authority; especially in the 17th and 18th centuries. (2) The doctrine that God created the world and its natural laws, but takes no further part in its functioning.

United States Constitution

The First Amendment
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..."

Article VI, Section 3
"...no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."

1. Ayn was always more about greed than religion. But I am glad to hear
this from here just so her followers can hear it.

2. Well, Ayn's greed was her religion
but she, herself, was an atheist.

I'm not surprised her organization recognizes the basic truth stated in the Treaty of Tripoli.

3. Being an atheist makes it easier to become wealthier.
They don't have to waste their income on tithing for a church.

8. However, not being wealthy yet
one's progress in business is often aided by fellow church members who toss business that way.

It can cut both ways, but tithing does take a huge chunk of income, so the rewards versus expenditures must be considered carefully in both cases.

5. That's like saying even the ACLU or Anti-defamation league says so.

9. I'm not sure how you figure that one
The folks who parrot the myth that the US was founded as a "Christian nation" generally aren't fans of the ACLU or the ADL.

10. How so? Carl Rove has been said to be an atheist. yet he pretends not to be
just like a tone of Republicans and even Democrats do. She is no longer around and they as an organization could try to fit in with the rest of the right wing and leave the free-thought part off there website, but they chose to be honest. Good for them.

6. Well, anyone with even passing knowledge of Ayn Rand knows she was an atheist, so
this is no surprise.

Christians are also atheist. At least they are standing on principal here on a very important issue. They could have easily left this off their website. They should be given credit for that.
