Gen. McCafrey - MSNBC
talk about speaking truth to power,

he just made the following points:

a) it matters not whether our 3 POWs are killed or not. We WILL recover them.
b) This was NOT Al Qaida, but a local sect fighting the insurgency
c) Al Qaida (Iraq's) is 99% Iraqi, not foreign fighters.
d) It is possible that the war group that captured the POWs will trade them to someone else, like Iraq's Al Qaida, because trading "everything" is commonplace, even with enemy sects.

If only the rest of our media would stop, look, listen and learn, and quit repeating White House sTalking Points as though their fictions were fact.

Thank you, general.

1. But, repeating White House talking points
is a lot easier than actually using something as simple as "The Google" to do a bit of research.

6. I haven't been on top of this case but
if he says that it's probably because of where the incident took place... and at any rate, as he said, actual "Al Qaeda in Iraq" is a tiny, tiny portion of the actual insurgency. It just suits all sides to play it up.

4. He makes very good points, as he well should.
The trading of captives is something that people don't like to talk about much for whatever reason but I see it as quite possibly how that BBC guy in the Gaza Strip got in such deep trouble.

5. Won't Make One Bit Of Difference To The Wingnuts
I've already heard the blind sabre-rattling on hate radio...the scepter of this cartoon "terrorist"...the Islamofascist. Ya know, the same guys who want to fly airplanes into our heads...and delivered Pizzas at Fort Dix.

This story has alredy gone through the looking glass into the parallel universe and has been fit into the standard "Al Queda...fill in the blanks" script that simplifies anything that happens in that part of the world, and always justifies for some outrage and "forceful" reaction. The reality of the many different groups...religious and regional...are way above the intelect of the chickenhawks as the one-size fits all "Islamofacist/terrorist" meme is all they have and still appears to work. Give up on the concept of Al Queda being the cause of everything wrong in Iraq and it destroys the fabric for continuing the occupation and expoitation.

McCaffrey has come quite a ways in recent months...IRC, he was a strong supporter of the surge last fall, but since the fiasco at Walter Reid has begun to take off the blinders.

7. agreed.
the wingnuts' next step is to connect Al Qaida to Iran, and support our upcomgin invasion.

even though Iran contacted us, trying to combine forces against AQ.
