Mike Thompson, CA 1st district. Talked to a nice staffer in Washington who seemed genuinely happy to hear my thoughts on the matter. We'll see how he votes.
on edit: Actually, I posted this to urge everyone else to call their congress-critter and do the same, then forgot that part. Call today!
No more money for dishonest wars for profit! America out of Iraq and Afghanistan NOW!

3. but you should call anyway.... |
|
How else will they know that dissent exists in their district, or be able to gauge their own political winds? Sure, they'll probably ignore the first 5 or maybe 50 constituents who call. But 500? Or 5000? Even the direst repig politician has skin in the game they want to protect.
Call today!

12. I understand-- it's futile, but it's not a futile gesture, really.... |
|
Every time he hears opposition to the wars he needs to be reminded, first and foremost, that folks in his district oppose them too. Don't give him a free ride while he rides roughshod over you!

7. Absolutely! Bug the hell out of them! |
|
Same goes for those you *know* will vote your wishes... be sure to call and thank them, as you can be sure the opposition is giving them hell.... and very possibly death threats.

You'd think we might have learned some lessons about the futility of imperialism from that experience, wouldn't you?

6. Toll-free Capitol Hill Numbers |
|
It works best to call their local office, as then they know you are a constituent, but for those who want to call D.C. and can't afford it...
Toll-free Capitol Hill Numbers:
1-800-828-0498 1-866-388-1015 1-866-220-0044 1-877-851-6437

13. Easy, indeed. They don't need or want a speech.... just a simple declaration of how you want them |
|
to vote. They keep a tally.... a column of Nos, and a column of Yeses.
Exception... one time I called members of the Congressional Black Caucus because they were giving speeches that day 0n a big topic. When I got to one office, I was told I was the FIRST one to call with a positive message! Now *that* is really disgraceful on our part!
She whispered to me that they were getting death threats, so I stayed on the line to give them all some well-deserved appreciation.
It was time well-spent!
(Then I called friends and asked them to also call in some appreciation... it is only right.)

14. But what should I call him? |
|
What should I call Bob Ingelis?
I actually think that calling Congress critters is a waste of time, they have their agenda and it ain't that of the working class.
