Anyone who disagrees with me is inherently evil, and less than fully human. |
|
"Think as I think," said a man, "Or you are abominably wicked; You are a toad."
And after I had thought of it, I said: "I will, then, be a toad."
Stephen Crane first published that poem about 105 years ago. I came across it somewhere around 1992. Still rings just as true to me today.
Please discuss... generally.

1. Everything that needed to be said about that was, indeed, said 105 years ago. |

7. Stridently held opinion based on questionable pseudo-science but I'm right |

not to start up again, but yes, too many people think that way. For me, I see a couple simple rules. Don't hurt people, don't hurt things, be part of the world. All else is just various ways to get to this same point.

You'd be amazed at how SELDOM princesses are able to distinguish between toads and frogs these days.
I blame society, but I ain't complaining.

The old man must have stopped our car two dozen times to climb out and gather into his hands the small toads blinded by our lights and leaping, live drops of rain
The rain was falling a mist about his white hair and I kept saying you can't save them all, accept it, get back in we've got places to go.
But, leathery hands full of wet brown life, knee deep in the summer roaddside grass, he just smiled and said "they have places to go to too"

I have a bear page now with some Iroquois stories. I almost added Bruchac, but decided on some others. It is hard to find the originals of the Iroquois stories because so many people translated them in flowery language.
