10. Hell, goosing the cook is mild, compared to Gannonwhores in the WH, Cheney on the Madam list, and
who knows what all?

Of course, I'm sure the cooks in the White House would reflexively tighten their sphincters if they got wind of such a plan!

18. the "official" reasons... yeah right
http://www.casperstartribune.net/articles/2007/05/15/ap/washington/d8p4kra00.txt

snippets:

He also sent a one-page letter of resignation to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, whose own job has been put in jeopardy by the firings and their aftermath, noting "financial realities of college-age children" as one factor in his decision. The letter did not mention the firings controversy.

McNulty has been considering leaving for months, and he never intended to serve more than two years as deputy attorney general.

--------

:eyes: add this to the "we were never for stay the course" and "we were never against benchmarks" spin...

and oh yeah - a few quotes from George Orwell 1984: http://www.gerenser.com/1984/quote.html

"If the Party could thrust its hand into the past and say this or that even, it never happened—that, surely, was more terrifying than mere torture and death." —pg 32

"And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed—if all records told the same tale—then the lie passed into history and became truth. 'Who controls the past' ran the Party slogan, 'controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.'" —pg 32

"Day by day and almost minute by minute the past was brought up to date. In this way every prediction made by the Party could be shown by documentary evidence to have been correct; nor was any item of news, or any expression of opinion, which conflicted with the needs of the moment, ever allowed to remain on record. All history was a palimpsest, scraped clean and reinscribed exactly as often as was necessary." —pg 36

"We have always been at war with Eurasia." - George Orwell, 1984

14. The Department Is Gridlocked
Bad enough it was turned into a GOOP partisan dumping ground...just like every other department, but now that the light is on, the department is in total suspended animation. A report on TPM today says that booooshie is afraid to nominate anyone to replace a prosecutor that would require congressional approval since it would open the door to more investigations and embarassment. Thus, for the next 18 months, consider the Justice Department on vacation.

Also that cloud of corruption is affecting how the department works...every prosecutor must be wondering if they're making the right move and not gettings on "monica's list" or whomever compiles it now. Inversely, I can imagine there are a ton of lawyers watching...either representing those convicted or about to come to trial, who will use the GOOPing of the DOJ as just cause to have verdicts overturned or venues changed or cases tossed.

While there's resignations, there's still not a definable crime...since the culprits are still hiding behind missing emails and executive privilidge. Yes, plenty of smoke and I suspect we'll see fire, but it's gonna take more squeezing.

22. We'll Need To Clean The Whole Joint Out
Edited on Tue May-15-07 06:33 AM by KharmaTrain
I think we're gonna need to virtually purge not just the DOJ but virtually every government agency. Not just the partisan hacks, but the rank and file as well...as it seems party affiliation and loyalty to Rove were the only qualifications for a nice civil service ticket. We may have to create a reverse Hatch Act.

McNulty is a chickenshit...he knew of the corruption going on and could do the right thing to speak out and expose it...as his obligation to the law should tell him...but he's cutting and running. He'll probably be "rewarded" for his treason by getting a nice cushy 7 figure gig at a GOOP law firm. That'll pay for college and thensome.

:hi:

25. I don't know that a full purge will be able to be conducted
of career civil service hires. However - very strong enforcement of the Hatch Act can make life uncomfortable, esp in a dem admin, for those hired whose sole purpose was to act as political operatives from within the civil service. I would then expect an exodus from many, and some folks actually becoming decent at their jobs (as in - just because you had a gop affiliation that led to your hiring doesnt mean you are an operative or unable to fullfil the job honorably - granted there is no honorability being acted out right now).

28. A Silver Lining...
Despite all the corruption, we have seen some brave souls on the other side who have shown some integrity and speak for many inside the beaucracy that are keeping quiet in these partisan times. In specific, I have been impressed with David Iglesias who I think speaks to what I hope will be a revival of public service and integrity over profit and partisan patronage. At least let us hope.

23. US Attorney Firing: Voter Fraud, Medicare Fraud, WHICH IS IT ???
US Attorney Firing: Voter Fraud, Medicare Fraud, WHICH IS IT ???
Why were USAs fired? I discovered this new possibility:

May 10, 2006 - USA Carol Lam's Litigation: Health and Human Services Seeks to Bar Medicare and Medicade Payments to Nation's #2 Hospital chain.
May 11, 2006 - Kyle Sampson e-mails deputy White House counsel William Kelley, re "the real problem we have right now with Carol Lam ....

What is really behind the complete take over of the DoJ by politicos?

Lam = prosecuting Medicare Fraud, not voter fraud. And, Congressional corruption!!
Carol Lam was ousted and she was prosecuting big medicine = Novation, Tenet, et.al.
The same thing was going on in MO, investigation of a company Gonzales' former firm represents.

=======================================================================
DO NOT for one minute think that this was JUST about vote suppression!! See the BIG PICTURE $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Placing politicos in DoJ jobs can subvert more aspects of the law than voting rights.
Is the 'voting fraud' SMOKE SCREEN now being used to SMOKE SCREEN
the real reasons WHY politicos are infiltratring the Justice Department????????

24. all of the above and doubtless
much more that makes this pale by comparison

face it - we have a police-state mentality in charge, with the tools and wherewithal to do what the hell they want. the wiretapping got exposed - what has not?

these firings got "outed" - what are the ones who did not get fired doing?

have people been "disappeared?"

I can believe absolutely anything of these people. They rationalize whatever they decide to do as "god's work" so they have no conscience whatsoever, no respect for law or the Constitution. It is NOT unrealistic to imagine ANY extreme activities. Human beings are clearly capable of unimaginable horror (eg, holocaust), I am not saying they have ovens going, but I AM saying there is no limit to what MIGHT be. They think they are fighting the devil and anyone, anything that resists or obstructs is the devil's work. They have annointed Pat Robertson as their chief drill instructor to train the cadre of "christian soldiers" and are "marching as to war, with the cross of je-sus, going on before"

31. This looks like the obvious explanation to why Lam's firing is not being pursued....
Many thanks to L. Coyote for providing the information on this underreported scandal.

One universal truth shines through here --character defects and criminal intent pale in comparison to 'greed' when it comes to factors that influence the prosecution or non-prosecution of crimes.

When investigations hit a brick wall, it usually is because someone's purse is about to be targeted --not lack of evidence.

FOLLOW THE MONEY and you will arrive at Carol Lam's firing.
