Pelosi Gets It!
PELOSI: What the American people really want to hear from the president now is, because I believe many of them are weary of war, they’re not weary of being protected, but weary of war, they’re worried about their economic security. And that’s what they want to hear from the president, is how do we go, is the president taking us in a forward direction? That’s what the people want to hear about, how we can create jobs in our country, as we reduce the deficit. Our agenda is about making it in America, make products in America, and make it as a person in America. It’s about protecting Social Security, it’s about lowering the deficit.

1. The Republicans and some Democrats are pushing Obama into war
Yes it would seem that Nancy gets it but who is actually pushing the war machine (not Obama).

2. What happens...
...if the president does speak, and nobody's listening, and nothing happens.

Because that is in fact what happens, has happened, for decades.

People pay attention to State of the Union messages, and not much else. They pay attention to State of the Union messages for about a month. After that, nothing.

What do you do then?

4. They listen to the State of the Union because they think what was
stated, will, in reality happen. When it does not, they focus on something else...

7. Nope...it just fades away.
No evidence in the literature that people in general -- not habitués of message boards -- keep score over time.

12. My father quoted FDR radio speeches to me
thirty years after the fact. He told me what his father said about what FDR said, what they had done that day, and the context of the times. If there is content to remember, content which is acted upon, then it is remembered. Rhetorical blather that was never actually sincere will vanish from the brain like the ephemeral thing that it is.

3. I'm not sure anyone really cares about the deficit
They might say they do as a way to trash Obama, but what people REALLY care about is their fucking JOB - will they still have it next year, is it going to be sent overseas, will their company go tits up.

I'm kinda surprised a smart politician like Pelosi doesn't get that. Unless she's just saying that to placate the dumbasses.

6. I certainly care about the deficit when the Pentagon "loses"
trillions and the Arlington Cementary not only mixes up our brave soldiers' graves and ashes, but "loses" millions in the process. The government has people to audit my little tax return, but we ALL collective turn our heads and just sigh at these atrocities. I just don't understand why people aren't just outraged at least at these two things.

13. Well we know eight billion in cold hard cash (hundred dollar bills, shrink wrapped)
Edited on Mon Aug-02-10 09:43 AM by Winterblues
Went on four huge Cargo jets straight to Iraq and pallet after pallet of those shrink wrapped bundles of hundred dollar bills and no one knows anything... wonder what the Republicans would have to say if such a thing happened under Obama.

15. Personally, I'm beginning to think our entire government is nothing
but a huge scheme; a game in which the top players (them - ALL OF THEM) have cards up their sleeves and cheat as often as they can. Not even a spineless Dem would not ask about this if they were on the up and up. It seems to me that Pelosi should be slamming her gavel on this. The ONLY one who impressed me at least at the Arlington Cemetary hearing was Clare McCaskilhttp://, although I understand that on most issues she's been a blue dog Dem. Here's the video of her at the hearing:

17. It was total fraud by the Republican administration - this should erupt before the Nov elections
Edited on Mon Aug-02-10 02:21 PM by Rosa Luxemburg
who authorized the spending in congress besides Rumsfeld and his pals at the Pent. Where did the money go? The agencies have a way of tracking where it went - whose bank accounts, which countries etc.

9. The quoted bit is just about messaging
and is almost as nonsensical as a Sarah Palin quote.

Not to mention being contradictory - How can we create jobs, as we reduce the deficit?

Answer - YOU can't if you are speaking for the government, because you'll have to become a jobs engine yourself and that WON'T reduce the deficit even though it is the right thing to do.
