42. It's the driving public's fault, according to the media shills |
|
As long as the demand remains high, the prices will stay up.
And as long as the public allows that rhetoric to go uncontested, the price will continue to climb, further fattening the already bulging purses of big oil.

56. Regular Gas is exactly $4.07/gal here in Fukuoka, Japan |
|
Years ago, the prices here were significantly higher than the U.S., at about $3.75 per gallon, but now they are pretty much the same. (yes, this has been converted from 130 yen per liter)
But most Japanese cars get 35~50 mpg, and the distances people drive here are much shorter, besides, there is great mass transit here for going to work - most people only drive on the weekends.
People in the states are clearly being GOUGED.
(I had intended to post this as a reply to this thread, but accidentally posted it as an OP - what the hell.)

What's going on? We're getting screwed by the oil companies. They are taking windfall profits out of our hides. They are completely protected by the bushies, nearly all of the pukes and most of the Dems in Congress.
The price of gas at the pump is the result of "mission accomplished".
I'd be willing to pay much more for gas if the money was going for something worthwhile like alternative energy and mass transit.
But it's not. The money's just going into the pockets of the ultra-rich with some of it going to campaign coffers to retain the status quo.
On edit: Oh, yeah. And some of the money is going to build more fucking roads for more fucking hummers and explorers...
Almost NONE of it is going to ameliorate the damage to health and environment that burning fossil fuels is causing.

|
Edited on Tue May-15-07 07:03 PM by ProudDad
was that they "had to" close down a bunch of refineries for repairs and deferred maintenance and, because they laid off so many thousands of folks in the last 20 years to boost their profits they can't find enough skilled workers to do the repairs.
Yeah, part right, they have laid off many folks and sent them into the ranks of the poor.
They also said that in California it was because we want to breath clean air (stupid us) and require them to blend "cleaner" gasoline.
Demand is DOWN so they artificially lower supply and raise the price. Typical Chicago School style of economics...enrichen the rich.
