Proposition 8 overturned by court; Mormon Church responds

LDS Church statement on Prop. 8 ruling

The following statement was submitted to ABC 4 News by Michael Purdy, spokesperson for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints:

“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints regrets today’s decision. California voters have twice been given the opportunity to vote on the definition of marriage in their state and both times have determined that marriage should be recognized as only between a man and a woman. We agree. Marriage between a man and woman is the bedrock of society.

“We recognize that this decision represents only the opening of a vigorous debate in the courts over the rights of the people to define and protect this most fundamental institution—marriage.

“There is no doubt that today’s ruling will add to the marriage debate in this country and we urge people on all sides of this issue to act in a spirit of mutual respect and civility toward those with a different opinion.”

1. It's not a debate. You lost and the millions you put into this could have fed and sheltered the poor
Enjoy Hell.

19. Oh, I hope so. I hope some liberal Catholics in San Francisco
point out that funding hatred is not a good use of the hard earned money working families give to the Church.

to decide how to define marriage, especially given their history. Perhaps marriage-minded gays should take a couple of spouses or more each to get in their good graces. Tax the bastards already.

8. Snort --- AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
The Profits er um Prophets blew a bazillion bucks for nothing. Well OK they outed themselves as "terrorists who hate us for our Freedom" but other than that they accomplished jack squat.

If the Profit is so worried about the bedrock of society he should be spending bazillions to make filing for divorce a criminal offense for anyone who's name is in the Lamb's book of life. Snicker.

13. They should keep their fucking noses out of everybody else's business.
And maybe we'll keep our noses out of theirs. If they don't mind their own business, then I say we're free to start asking questions about who is married to how damned many women and little girls in Utah and Arizona and every other damned state in the union. And to tell them to get the hell away from our front doors instead of politely saying "no thank you."

18. Dear not too bright people..
... please understand what the founders meant by "tyranny of the majority" and how it applies here.

No state can make a law that is unconstitutional. Got it?

Now go wash your magic underwear.
