A friend was considered for ass't. U.S. Attorney job year ago. |
|
Actually in late 2005. He had 7-8 years of practice under his belt with heavy litigation experience. Graduated with honors from a top ivy league university and a top 5 law school. Nice looking guy, very personable, and smart as a whip. No skeletons in closet.
At first the office where he had applied was very encouraging. He met with the U.S. Attorney in charge and the meeting went very well. Looked like the job would be his.
Then, out of the blue, all communication ceased. After a few weeks he called one of the assistant attorneys that he knew in the office. "Sorry, John. We've had a big shake-up in personnel here and evidently some radical changes in hiring practices and qualifications. That's all I can tell you."
It was very puzzling to both of us. And the answer to 'why?' just now hit me. John is not a Republican. I'm having one of those 'duh' moments. :eyes:

well, actually a woman who I lusted over for years (to her hubby's chagrin) has been an asst. US atty for most of her career. A lot of notable successes, talented courtroom presence, and extremely hard work in preparation. The religious idiots have put her careeer in the mud.

You're right, of course. I'm not into conspiracies, but it's pretty obvious to all that that's just how things are done under this Administration.
The next Democrat Administration needs to change this once and for all. It's no use leaving the door open to a repeat performance.
No other developed country would put up with this. Elsewhere, the obligation is to pick the best applicant regardless of party affiliation. If their politics get in the way of proper government work, they're out. But otherwise their politics is their business, and it's not a party nomination process.
The US needs government officers doing the footwork for the people who aren't just party appointees, who'll put duty first and who'll blow the whistle on wrongdoing by either side.
It just needs the best.

... but I think this calls for entrenching such requirements.
Never again!

4. Always a tough job to get |
|
Law school graduates would kill to be Asst US Attorneys or judicial clerks and the jobs are few and far between.
