Suppose the right wing crazies actually do repeal the 14th Amendment
What would stop them from revoking the citizenship of any American, especially any American that didn't share their viewpoint? These people are armed to the teeth and certainly unstable and irrational enough to use violence to enforce their will and hatred. Forced deportation, wrongful imprisonment or torture seem like the lesser of the heinous acts they would commit after the repeal.

I personally find these repeal threats to be some of the most dangerous words ever uttered by those frigtening people.

1. Not to forget repealing the 14th Amendment also repeals:
Edited on Thu Aug-05-10 07:53 AM by no_hypocrisy
1. The due process clause that applies to the States, and
2. The equal protection clause that applies to the States, and
3. The direct election of senators by the electorate.

Want to see rampant discrimination against targeted societal groups? Want the Senate (with a republican majority) to (s)elect your next Senator in your blue state? Want to lose your right to a fair hearing for non-federal matters?

It's more than "anchor babies".

3. Direct elections of senators is the 17th Amendment
That aside, you're correct. That's the main reason the teabaggers and others want to repeal the 14th Amendment.

There are an estimated 2-4 million illegal immigrants from Europe. Why don't the teabaggers have a problem with that? Makes one wonder...

4. The Angry White Man Party is having it's final wedge issues spasms
And only because it's an election year and they're dusting off their favorite wedge issues. Pull back the curtain and it's just a pathetic little man.

5. Is there a similar law in any other country
where babies born there are automatic citizens? I always wondered about that.
