NRA Too Afraid Of Looking Weak To Fully Oppose Kagan
Almost immediately after President Obama nominated Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court, conservatives started spouting trumped up claims that she would take away everyone’s guns, even though there is no evidence that her views on the Second Amendment differ from right-wing Justice Antonin Scalia. Yet while conservative media tells armed Americans to be very, very afraid of Kagan and oppose her at all costs, the nation’s largest gun lobby is backing away:

Conservative activists who focus on the judiciary say the NRA is very protective of its win-loss record in political fights and is loath to undermine its powerful reputation with a losing effort against Kagan. <...>

“While they put effort into it, it hasn’t been a full-throated effort,” Levey said of the group.

He said the NRA is used to focusing on legislative battles over gun control and “they know that that Kagan’s going to be confirmed.

1. If they lose and appear weak their gravy train will dry up, and this it what it truly is about.
Wayne needs his silk suits and Italian loafers.

6. Meanwhile...
Sarah Brady can barely afford to keep herself in sack cloth dresses and shower shoes as her 'organization' is nearly bankrupt.

Maybe if they had chosen their battles wisely (example: blowing their lunch money on targeting Starbucks), they'd be in a better position to fulfill their agenda?

7. Or, maybe the entire pro/against gun debate is a scam.
The NRA is just better at scaring the simpletons that clutch to their never ending fables of evil libruls gonna take their gunz nonsense.

8. Perhaps...
but it's the courts, state legislatures and Congress where it matters most... and so far (past 10 years or so), not only has the pro-RKBA side been successful in overturning previous gun control legislation in those arenas, we've made gains that we wouldn't have thought possible 12-15 years ago.

There was a time when the Bradys were an organization to be concerned about.

Now... they're just an annoyance; like the buzzing of flies.

9. The gains are against basically idiotic laws to begin with.
A lot of them were enacted because St. Ronnie took a near miss and the repugs were not happy about that(to bad that guy wasn't a better shot) and of course the urban legends of black crack dealers shooting up the neighborhoods. Eventually the nra will run out of bogey men and they will resort to fabricating scary scenarios of the black President taking their gunz, kinda like the are doing now.
The nra is basically the PR/advertising agency of the gun manufacturing industry, they have very little use anymore.

2. NRA aside, Kagan's position on gun issues is worrisome
She can talk about "settled law" all she likes, but she does have a track record of working with briefs and legislation that do not favor Constitutional rights. Has she truly changed since then? I don't know. I certainly hope so.
