Proposition 8: Long road to the Supreme Court
http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/08/04/prop.8.next/index.html?iref=obinsite

A federal judge in California ruled Wednesday that Proposition 8 -- California's voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage -- is unconstitutional.

Q: What happens next?

A: The losing side hoped the judge would immediately issue a stay to stop the ruling from going into effect until appeals are filed. The judge did just that by granting an immediate stay on the ruling.

Supporters of the voter-approved referendum in particular were concerned that if they lost, same-sex marriages could be performed before the judge rules on the stay request, which could take several weeks.

1. This issue can really help Democrats, and derail the "Tea Party."
Gay marriage can lead to a positive repolarization in many states, making GOP candidates less acceptable in places like New Hampshire, Delaware, Oregon, etc. The "elites" are not "socially conservative," and so this issue could eclipse the ersatz populism of the fascist "Tea Party."
