Do people realize that gay people actually 'procreate'? |
|
That being gay is not an abolute barrier to Conceiving in a 'traditional' Fashion?
I'm always amazed at what people think goes On with lgbtiq people.

5. I know lots of gay people with kids |
|
My ex-wife and I tried VERY hard to have kids when we were married. She never got pregnant,Thank GOD!!!
What is wild is after I came out of the closet and we divorced, she got a new boyfriend right away and BAM!!! She was pregnant just like that!
But I am glad I never had kids.

one of my employees was worried about showing up at a company dinner with her "partner" because the invite specified only employees and family - good LORD I said, Carla, you've been with this gal four years and you are raising her daughters together.....HELLO! THAT IS FAMILY! She brought them. :D

it's been a long time but I think I assumed they were from a previous straight relationship (Carla referred to herself as a step-mom) but I never did ask

14. two friends of mine (women) each had a daughter |
|
from previous relationships with opposite sex partners.
their kids were pretty young when my friends finally came out. neither one had married the guy they had a kid with.
i know several women now who are divorced and have two kids from their husbands/marriages and are now "out" and happily committed to their female partners and raising the kids.
you're right. when people talk about marriage being for the purpose of having/raising children they are 1. full of shit from the get go and 2. stupid as hell to think gay people can't/don't "procreate" (which makes me think of the straight married people i know who never had kids or wanted them--which goes into another discussion i suppose)

16. I have to admit I've never even thought about that. |
|
Thanks for making me do so.
Honestly, though, you shouldn't be amazed. Most people think about what affects their life, and if it is something outside of their experiences or their need to know, they don't think about it. Even good people with all the right motivations don't have a perfect understanding of everything, especially if it's something they've never really had a reason to think about it. Now that you mention it, I'm remembering various same-gender couples I knew with kids. One was a friend of my daughter's, and we talked to his parents, or one of them, a lot (the other was a minor celebrity who stayed away from public functions). It never really occured to me to wonder where the little tike came from. They were just a family we knew, and when we talked, it was about school or raising kids or the best places around Austin to eat.
Give us clueless heteros a break. Ignorance doesn't always mean apathy. Be gentle in educating us, eh? :)

Our glowing magical pixie aura once kept us from it, but then The Mighty DSM dismantled the pesky obstacle somewhere around 1973 or so.
Then "BOOM"! We were just like everyone else. It will become clear to all in another decade or two. :)

21. Sometimes even being straight is a barrier |
|
to conceiving in a "traditional" fashion, as most of them should know, or realize. I mean, they always seem to be praising God whenever in vitro fertilization works for infertile couples and they end up with 5 or 6 or 7 babies at a time.
According to their stupid logic, couples like these should not be married either because there is no way they're ever going to be able to conceive the "traditional" way, even though they're one man and one woman.
And for older women...those past menopause...they also should not have the right to marry because they can't procreate.
They can't claim it's all about "procreation" and then pick and choose which groups should be excluded from the list of people who should not marry based only on their own prejudices.

I know a lesbian couple who are proud parents of a newborn, as a matter of fact. Being gay doesn't make one sterile.
If the fundaloons can spray their shorts over how fabulous Kate and Jon plus 8 (who used IVF) are then they have no business whatsoever bitching about same-sex couples using IVF, surrogates, adoption or other means to have families. This crap about how we can't procreate is so much bullshit.

:D I love all the new words I find on DU.
And they actually mean something, unlike say, "refudiate", which of course was not a made-up word on Sarah Palin's part, but rather an accident of ignorance. And then she lied about it. I guess spellcheck would be pointless on twitter.
(and now I promise that I'm done hijacking your thread, xchrom. :hide:

26. A couple weeks ago, a bigoted friend of an in-law |
|
shared with me that if the whole world was inhabited with only gays and lesbians, civilization would come to an end.
I asked him, "You do realize that gays and lesbians possess the same sexual organs as heterosexuals"? I didn't get a response after going back and forth throughout the day over other right wing talking points.I swear these people cannot not have an original thought on their own and survive by regurgitate sound bites.
