I'm getting very afraid. Afraid for our Country.
I wasn't afraid after 911, or the Patriot Act, or the what seems like thousands of other fear tactics the Gov't & media have been pushing for years, but I'm afraid now.

Cities turning their street lights off, destroying cacadam roads and throwing down stones because they can't afford to maintain the paved roads, teachers layed off and the rest reduced to 4 days a week because the municipality can't afford to pay them, police annoucing that they will not respond to any cromes less than murder because they've been cut to such a short staff, brush & weeds not being cut along super highways because there sno money....

Every hour I hear of some other drastic cutback and I hear absolutely NO GOOD NEWS!

I'll be OK unless the Fed Gov't competely falls apart because we're both on SS and although we don't like high on the hog, we're doing fine, but what are the people doing who have not only lost their job but lost their unemployment? How do they eat?

It's not only here in the US either. My son works for an airline and he took his kids on vacation to Italy to visit his brother who lives there. It didn't cost him much becasue he flew free and stayed with my brother. On their way home they were stranded overnight at the airport in Rome because the flight they were hoping to get was full with paying passangers. They met a man there who's house had been taken by the gov't because he couldn't pay the mtg so he was living at the airport in Rome. My son asked him how long he was going to stay there & he said well, until they kick me out I guess. I have no idea how he's getting $$ to eat either.

What's tomorrow, or next month, or the next 6 months going to bring?

I don't mean to be a fear monger, but this whole mess has m very afraid.

3. Don't give in to fear

Look at what you've been through and you're still here.

Things do not look bright. I saw one of my oldest today (just earned Masters!) and he said, "It was planned to fall apart like this all along."

It seems like the Repukes aren't even trying to hide their disdain for our nation - the way Zach Wamp talked about the unemployed, the way they kissed BP's ass. They don't even try, and meanwhile, as my son says, "Some poor person in the South is all up in arms about a mosque in New York City."

Plenty get it, but what's to be done?

I guess I just think locally and try to be part of my community so that we have each other. We know what one another's resources and strengths are. That's the answer to fear where i live, but that's small town rural.

I hope that even if things get much worse, you will be okay.

6. Think how great it's going to be when Greece's meltdown rushes through Spain/Ireland/Italy
then to France, Britain and America. I hear that's the crisis trajectory.

7. Entirely different deals, each one- though that is the propaganda being disseminated on the right
and if people follow the deficit bogeymen- as it seems many in the US are intent on doing, the nation will indeed accelerate its decline.

21. Chosen servants
and automation. 5% of the current world population, I heard. That allows for top 1-2% and 3% servants.

In their minds, we're all dead people walking.

8. this is all happening because god hates America because we let gays marry
and we kill babies who were fathered by rapists. And because we have a black demoncrat for "president" who says he was born in Hawaii and not a good christian like newt gingrich...

It is happening because we have large numbers of people who were not really educated and who are dumber than dogshit who actually believe all the above nonsense and they will vote for republicans in november while many here will sit home and whine.

Vote or shut up.

10. Simply voting for Coke or Pepsi isn't enough
This is a global issue, and both parties are in on it. We have the Presidency and both houses, so blaming the minority just isn't going to cut it. We need valid third parties and, unfortunately, we made need a very ugly revolution.

15. Yes, but I HATE being afraid of anything! All my life I've always been able to
think about the problem and figure out how best to deal with it. Sometimes there's something you can do, and somethines there's nothing you can do so you do the best work around. This world wide mess is so big I feel helpless, and I guess that's my real problem. NOBODY wants to feel helpless in any situation.

17. you are not helpless
you cannot solve the world's problems -- you never could -- but you can take care of your own life and that of your nearest and dearest. and from there build a small community.

The elite wish to "make us go away," except enough to be their servants. Well, there is a saying..."be careful what you wish for."

They may well be able to destroy "America," pull our government apart, take apart life "as we know it." That doesn't mean we can't rebuild a "Better America" from the ground up, 1 small community at a time. The more self-sufficient each small community becomes, the more you can focus what "money" you do have on paying only for what needs to be bought and paid for, versus that which can be created with your own hands or bartered for.

Increasingly, I see almost a parallel, yet totally separate, existance of the "Two Americas" or the "Two Worlds." The totally dependent "Elite" -- dependent on money and servants to survive -- and the truly independent "rest of us" living in a different universe that happens to overlap the physical, 3-D reality of "them."

Consider for one moment the worst of them. Would you really want to trade places with, say, Charles Kraukhammer (sp), ie that pundit corpse?

18. And the conservatives are afraid for our country too. We have something in common.
But they don't seem to mind the lights going off and people dying of untreated disease.
Their main worry is that they will have to share some of their money to help other people.

19. I don't think they realize that when or if there is a total collapse
THEY won't have anything either! They seem to have been convinced that all would be OK if the Pubs were just in charge: that THEY'D know how to fix everything. I well remember Shrub's last 2 years, when many of us on the left kept saying that the Pubs are doing everything they can to barely hold everything together until a Dem gets into office because, although they KNOW it's going to happen, they don't want it to happen on their watch.

22. Bush and Cheney may have had the last laugh after all.
Maybe the damage is permanent, or at least in terms of how most of us here define our lifespans.

Most of the people whose opinions matter to me don't speak of a "possible double dip recession." They feel that we are in a DEPRESSION right now, and I'm inclined to agree with them.

What's tomorrow, or next month, or the next 6 months going to bring?

Just focus on today, getting through today.
