If you are sooo worried about how DU "looks" to the outside world...

First, let me acknowledge the hardworking and VOLUNTARY service of the DU Moderators. Another nod to DU's Administration--I've been here for years, I've seen some real ugly--real ugly.

Now let me say this: I will bet anyone on DU that there are hundreds of people trolling DU right this moment; registered and non-registered, just looking for the dozen or so absolutely over-the-top statements that will be made today. No doubt these statements will end up on someone's blog--or radio show (I trust I need not explicate just which shows). Notice I mention DOZENS--and consider how active just this board is among all of DU's boards. It's going to happen, I've seen it dozens of times, and I don't worry a moment over it. (Edit: added this after my initial post for clarity

I'm also willing to bet that many of those posts will get pulled and rightfully so.

JF made me ashamed not just to be a Christian, but to be a HUMAN. I've spoken very little ill will about the man now that he is dead; it just isn't my way to do such.

But I refuse to be party to the stifling of the anger and rage at a man who perverted the word of Jesus, subverted the Constitution for his own hypocritical and malicious purposes, and had an enormous hand in the overthrow of American democracy and the slaughter of literally thousands of Iraqi civilians and American soldiers.

I can't speak ill of the dead; but in this particular case, I can understand those who can.

3. The man is gone

Jail, public redemption, all gone. What is being lost as usual in the event and its ritual is the widespread social effects left behind(so to speak). If the evil endures it won't help the man at all, nor us either. So yes, dispassionately discuss the public facts and the continuing real legacy and leave the useless circus alone.

We can't see him in jail. We can't see him change. We can't see his works immediately undone. No one gets anything but one less actor onstage who escaped out the back door.

In these times of crisis when the live of countless thousands of men, women,children hang in the balance we can't let this guy, when dead, distract us from the work at hand, given to us to blow abuse or fall short. I understand new depths of the command "Let the dead bury the dead." The living have a lot of work to do so as not join them in heart or body.
