Mr. Gibbs: What Progressives Want Is For The Admin To Do What's Right
As opposed to that which is politically expedient...end wars, close toxic prisons, let people be who they were born to be and so forth. Simple enough.

Sorry you don"t like it but too bad, the problem lies with you and not us.

8. Really?
Please elaborate. Because I'm not seeing it.

I sure do get tired of the bullshit straw man arguments that pass for debate around DU these days.

3. You should add the word "now"
because that is what this is all about. Too fast, not fast enough, etc. Some people just have no perspective.

To some ending wars = good
closing prisons = good

and can be done instantly via Einstein's spooky action at a distance.

Some of us don't believe the political physics of the day allows for this fast of a pace. We are right. You are wrong. It is a sad truth.

4. You want perspective?
He said Gitmo would be closed in 1 year.

It isn't.

He said he would address DADT in his second year.

That second year is half over. Nothing.

I knew he was a moderate, not a raging progressive. I fully expected him to move slowly, pragmatically. I did not expect him to LIE.

The problem with GITMO was NOT its location. It was the unaccountability. The lack of transparency. Moving GITMO prisoners to Bagrahm is NOT fixing GITMO. Taking a year and a half for the FIRST trial of a GITMO prisoner - a child who had no business being there in the first place - is NOT fixing GITMO.

Obama does not appear to have the courage of his very moderate convictions.

Stacking his staff with DLC regressives, with corporatists, with people more beholden to Goldman Sachs than to the American public, with people who say I'm a fucking retard and need drug testing after I helped put them in office -

and I need perspective?

5. yes, you need perspective.
There have been a few other challenges and accomplishments along the road. Maybe this has happened to you in your life. Extrapolate that to a global level. Yes, you need perspective.

Re your corporatist, DLC, regressive comments, well, I'm sorry you feel that way. Most do not. You may enjoy a bunch of warm fuzzy support around these parts, but it's just not the view of most progressives, even. Sorry.

7. Specifics, please. I listed specific problems, you replied with
vague generalities.

What are these "few other challenges and accomplishments"?

The health care reform that guarantees that insurance companies, not health care providers, will have a final say on who gets treatment? It's the best health care system the wealthy can afford - for the rest of us, not so much.

The finance reform that guarantees that there will continue to be bubbles because of the lack of oversight that was stripped away with the repeal of Glass Steagall? The reform created by the very people who caused the mess?

How about the Race To The Top, where politicians decide who gets educated while teachers' unions are busted so that for-profit schools can replace experienced teachers with kids just out of college at half the cost.

WHERE are the progressive credentials of this administration?
