I am dismayed to discover, with his help, that I have been such an embarrassment to the Party all these years. At long last I have come to see that what I used to think of as “political positions” were actually the sick products of a crazed, drug-addled and developmentally impaired mind.

I was wrong to think that all people should have adequate food, housing and health care, and meaningful education provided by actual trained teachers. I was wrong to hope for peace because our economy relies on war. I was wrong to think that an economic recovery should extend beyond Wall Street to improve the lot of the bottom 99 percent of the population. I was wrong not to see that the stimulus should go mostly to the people who were losing their houses instead of being spent to make the wealthy whole again after their bad luck with all those mortgage derivatives.

I was wrong in general to imagine that there should be restraints placed on monopoly capitalism, and that unions should be empowered. Yes, Robert Gibbs has brought me to see how wrong I was about all these things, and how I must repent of my misguided thinking.
