It is quite simple, really. In most elections in the country, you are presented with two choices.

It is quite simple, really. In most elections in the country, you are presented with two choices.

Vote for the one that more closely aligns to your own viewpoints.

I'm guessing that, if you're a regular on a site like DU, that choice - in most cases - has a "D" next to his name.

We don't have European-style parliamentary government. You get two (realistic) choices.

Pick the one you disagree with less (or agree with more - however you want to look at it).

It's not complicated.

15. Still two choices: vote or don't.
Even worse returns, in general.

5. My ballot usually has several choices and a write in option.
None of which I am loathe to use.

"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever, in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else, where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent. If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all." Thomas Jefferson to Francis Hopkinson, 1789.

"Were parties here divided merely by a greediness for office,...to take a part with either would be unworthy of a reasonable or moral man." Thomas Jefferson to William Branch Giles, 1795.

“Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost." John Quincy Adams

6. Except in primaries
Which is why I hate it when the DSCC/DCCC get involved in them, or worse yet try to obstruct them, which was Rahm's favorite tactic.

10. Truth is, I don't like Rush at all.
I'd rather eat tapioca pudding than listen to Geddy Lee's voice.

But I do like the saying.

12. I know the song.
I played in a band for a couple of years with a guy that was a Rush nut. We finally replaced him with someone that listened to The Ramones, best move the band ever made.

14. There are two choices except when there aren't.
Some of us are lucky enough to have an option to go a third way. Some of us don't have any choice at all since the asshole on the Republican ticket is also running on the Democratic ticket.

We have more than two party lines here and since I have choices I will make my decision as I see fit thank you very much. Your scare-mongering is not persuasive and is downright boring.

If Democrats acted like Democrats, if they behaved as though they had spines instead of buckling like a belt, they probably wouldn't be so worried about having turned off so much of the electorate in the first place. The people responsible for that is the bloody party leaders. Lecturing people to vote for representatives who blatantly sell them out is an insult to the intelligence of said electorate. The idea of democracy is that the people can choose for themselves. No one needs you trying to brow beat them into voting how YOU see fit because you think people are too fucking stupid to make decisions for themselves. Frankly, you show a rather sycophantic slavishness that doesn't bode well for politics in this country. Politics is not a team sport and (team) Democrat is not entitled to our votes jut because they're running as a member of the Democratic party. I'll make my decisions based on policies thank you very much and I don't need your fucking useless lectures on how it works and how I should vote.

17. We don't have a choice, both parties are owned by the Corporatists.
I repeat, there is no REAL political choice in this country. It's just like Iran, except with the Corporate Elites instead of mullahs.
