House Republican Leader John Boehner: Jobs for Teachers and Cops in States Across America Don’t Matter
August 10th, 2010 by Karina

Today, hours before the House voted 247-161 to pass a bill to create and save 319,000 American jobs, House Republican Leader John Boehner repeated his opposition to the bill, telling reporters that the states are on their own:

“We are broke. We do not have the money to bail out the states. It’s time for them to get their arms around their own problems,” he told reporters.

Interesting, given the GOP’s support for extending the deficit-busting Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest few, which would blow a $700 billion hole in our deficit.

1. If we cant capitalize on this kind of idiocy then we don't deserve to win...
Do you want this guy to be speaker...

Runa couple of quotes and that line that he spent 180 days golfing last year should be the commercial all across the country.

A majority of Americans would say 'Hell yeah"

Cops and teachers share one thing—they take your tax money, and turn around tell you, or your kids, ‘You’re doing it wrong’, or ‘You can’t do that’. Cops especially, unless they are employed in their only legitimate role, as an army of occupation in the darker parts of town. Otherwise all they do is write tickets and keep you from beating your wife.

There is no constituency for any occupation that earns its bread by telling the Great American Electorate ‘No’. Boehner, Pence et. al.just says out loud what people already believe: “They’re all highly paid civil service drones.” One foot-in-mouth outbreak isn’t going to undo 30 years of GOP propaganda.

The mean in this country is burnt in so deep that the default American response to “My job sucks” is always “Find someone else and make his job suck, too”; the response to “I lost my job” is always “Find someone else and take her job away.”

There is no class solidarity in this country. We’re the Saudi Arabia of false consciousness—world’s largest producer and largest proven reserves.

Scapegoat, not chicken, is America’s favorite white meat.

Any progressive politics not predicated on the theory that people in the aggregate are shit is doomed to fail. They have to be bribed, or bullied, because they’re not going to do the right thing because it’s right. That’s the lesson of Abolition, of the union movement, of the civil rights movement. Shame works -- but only once a century.

13. Over the top wrt teachers. They're here to educate, inform,
and tell people they are right or wrong when it's applicable.

I'm not touching that cop line; if I ever need one, I hope I'd be able to find one.

15. Remember all the stuff said here about cops...
...last summer, when Prof. Gates had his little problem with the Cambridge, MA, police?

Cops have no automatic sympathy or constituency -- they're just as easily painted as a bunch of highly-paid civil service drones as teachers are.

6. So Boehner says no money to help the states, but hey, there's enough lying around for tax cuts for
the wealthy!

Interesting. You know what, Boehner, why not just shift that 'money' from tax cuts for the wealthy and give it to the states?

Problem solved, right?
