In one day, I was slammed by one Democratic Party representative |
|
and asked by a bunch of others to take a hit for the team. I'm feeling rather dizzy.
Yeah, yeah, I know, Gibbs wasn't talking to me. I've never said Obama is "just like Bush." And I'm not a professional anything, hell, I'm not even employed.
And I do greatly value teachers, so I'm glad to help them keep their jobs. Sure, it would have been nice to be asked to make that sacrifice, instead of being told that I *will* be making it - and with about half of our family's monthly food currently coming from food stamps, I suspect it'll be a sacrifice we'll really feel. But I know asking just isn't possible in cases like this. The cuts are necessary. Ok. We'll make the sacrifice.
But damn. I went from Gibbs this morning to food stamp cuts this afternoon. In the middle, there were some good things, and I do truly appreciate that. But I still feel a little woozy.

1. It's been a DUzy, that's for sure. |

For the record, this teacher, while grateful that funds to help keep classrooms staffed are on the way, is not happy with funding that effort by cutting food stamps.
Obey wanted to use funds from Arne's RTTT billions. Obama threatened to veto any bill that cut his funds for privatization and union-busting, but is apparently okay with food stamp cuts.
Priorities.
I'm sorry.

Teachers are very important to our society. And I really do know how hard it is to be a teacher, because I was one too, once upon a time.
It's just been a helluva day.

2. you notice how the food stamp cuts is NOT being touted by the swarm? |
|
I'd love to hear why we can let people STARVE, but we can't cut in other areas?

7. There's a real need to accentuate the positive |
|
and I get that. Nobody said this shit was going to be easy, or painless.
But it's also true that the very good part of this bill carries a very unhappy price. We need to acknowledge that too, I think. And by "we" I mean all Democrats. I'd include the Repubs too, but I know forcing honesty from them is like trying to squeeze blood from a turnip.

10. accentuating the positive on the backs of the folks who CANNOT fight back is a puke tactic |
|
And to see that being done by the Democrats -- not ONCE, but TWICE? And then the pollyanna-bots keep saying that Washington is going to do a jobs bill for the unemployed? Really? WHY would they do that? They only notice the ones who are trod on the most when they need to cut more from those folks for the latest photo-op.
TWICE food stamps have been cut. TWICE. there is NOTHING positive about taking food out of families' mouths in order to build a *legacy*.

12. I blame the Senate Democrats for this |

If they aren't willing to stand up for Americans who need food aid, what the hell good are they?

And I can also understand the fear that too much criticism might lead to a Repub win in November. I don't necessarily agree with that idea, but I get where those people are coming from. And as disappointing some of the Dems in Congress are, the Republicans are *absolutely* unacceptable to me.
Feeling used does get really discouraging, though. And it feels much worse when it's our party making us feel that way.

11. I don't think we're allowed to say anything negative about the administration. |
|
At least that's the sense I'm getting here.
However, my last post that mentioned this was poofed...so maybe I can't even say that we're not allowed to say anything negative. Ok, now I'm confused! :)

14. I second your confusion. |
|
If we don't criticize, we're cheerleaders...BUT If we do criticize, we're poutraged crybabies or maybe Repub sympathizers. We are totally unimportant as individuals, and we should never assume anyone in power is talking to or about us, since they don't even know we exist...BUT We are vitally important to the Party, and if we don't vote, or don't vote correctly, and the Dems lose, everything bad that happens will be ALL our fault.
We apparently occupy the odd position of being simultaneously super-powerful and meaningless. I think that would confuse anybody.

3. Sorry but they don't even know your name to bother insulting you personally |
|
you are simply not that critical as an individual for them to give up their own ideas in favor of pleasing you.

8. And I'm not actually asking to be pleased. |
|
It would be nice if the food I feed my kids wasn't considered less important than war funding. I could be talking crazy here, but I just don't think that's too much to ask.
But yes, I am painfully aware that I am not in any way important as an individual.
