Obama: on FR, a Marxist Leftist Commie, on DU a RW tool
Looking at these Obama attacks on both forums I can't help but think, he's got the hardest job of any President. He's the one who inherited post-BushCo America with its endless crisises and divisions.

It really makes me want to have a toast to him! Love him or hate him, you have to admire his grace under fire.

:toast:

1. The fall campaign theme is "we are rightwing commie haters too!"
there will be a consequent lack of motivation from the left to support this administration.

5. If the left and right both hate you
Does that make you a "centrist?" Does such a thing even exist?

... Bush a hero on free republic and a villian here.

What is your point?

4. Right?
Tonight it looks like Obama is a villain here AND there....for this silly Gibbs comment? Did we forget what real villains (Bush, Cheney, Scooter, the whole cabal) are like?

8. Doesn't mean that pols shouldn't be bitchslapped when they're stupid . . .
Even if they are, putatively, on our side.

Gibbs is in no way a villain in the Bushco mold. But he says dumb shit way too often for most progressives' taste. Time for him to seek out other career opportunities.

I guess I see he bitchslapping as unnecessary and an overreaction in this particular situation, just IMO.

30. And that's why they have horse races. IMO Gibbs' action . . .
Which one presumes is approved of at the very top, hands 'Licans a whole armory full of ammunition with which to shoot at genuinely progressive figures, and hands the media talking points about "extreme leftists" and "Democratic disunity" that'll keep them vibrating for days.

It was not only obnoxious, but politically foolish. I see no upside.

And it didn't need to happen -- even if he was expressing Oval Office opinions, Gibbs didn't need to hand the wingnuts sound bites like candy.

Bad judgment, bad timing, bad messaging. Slap him around, I say!

... (in my best whiny voice) "but the Republicans are worse " argument holds no water for me. Democrats that act like Republicans are of no use to me and I won't vote for them.

25. Well then lock them the fuck up. Do something about the evil criminals besides making them the
Boogieman to scare folks with.

"Not looking back" while screaming about the Devil chasing us is a hell of a load.

Yeah, he is dogging our heels but only because he is enabled and aided by our own demons and that is on us.

12. One difference would be they started that shit before they knee his name
Meanwhile, we were making the calls, eating beans and ramen to fund him, knocking on doors, taking folks top the polls, pitching everyone we encountered, and voted for the man.

The false equilivency frame is totally silly on many levels, this not the least of them.

Its also plain faulty thinking as it ignores the massive dissatisfaction from independents and that the entirety of the openly right is far right.

The reality is that the very satisfied are the outliers and they need to figure out what they actually stand for and decide who they will compromise with to have a working coalition or give the keys back to the Republicans.

I'll remind you that you've been blowing the pukes for moving toward two years and they are growing more batshit crazy by the second to the point that they will not take policy they write out of obstinate hated and desire to destroy for the people by the people government.

24. Serious question: can a non-corporatist win an election in the US?
It seems to me unless we find a way to take the enormous money out of the system, the answer is no. So if Clinton and Obama are corporatists, and Bush and Cheney are corporatists (by the definition of taking corporate donations) I'll take Obama.

Something to ponder while we look in shock at the idiocy of Sarah Palin, Rand Paul and Sharon Angle and wonder what happened to us as a nation.

28. Yes that is a good question but
it only seems logical to me that we try to pull in the right direction, for instance the supreme court I feel is going in a much better direction than if McCain was picking. We try to get the best of what we can pull off and work for progress, rather than demanding perfection and ending up going full speed the other way (like BushCo.) I guess I'm not ready to give up but realistically this is going to be a slow process.

I had to ask somebody last night about it.

Yes. God is all knowing and created the Universe, or does not exist. I'll go with God knows a lot of shit and created part of the Universe.

Cuz everybody knows that wanting a public option and criticizing it's omission and calling the President a muslim terrorist from Kenya come from EXACTLY the same unhinged extremist thinking.:eyes:
