Am I the only one here who liked Jerry Falwell? |
|
Edited on Tue May-15-07 03:57 PM by Proud2BAmurkin
Don't get me wrong, I despised the filth he spewed about AIDS, 9/11, all the rest. But at the same time I never had a hate for him like the one for that Rev Moeller puke who was on Larry King last night, or James Dobson and some others.
On edit: It appears so

be alone in your regard for him.

11. Falwell had a big responsibility for fundamentalists voting Republican as a bloc, giving us 2 terms |
|
of shrub.
Pretty hard to like the guy given that fact.
Aside from the fact that he seemed like a judgmental jerk.
I'm not sure what it is about him that you liked.

13. They are all the same to me. |
|
Jerry Falwell.
Pat Robertson.
James Dobson.
Ralph Reed.
They say they are Christians, but they do not act like Christians. They judge others. Condemn them. Tell lies about them.
This is not what being a Christian is all about.
The Bible warns us to "beware a wolf in sheep's clothing." To me, these are the very people we are being warned about.

That asshole couldn't have given the Teletubbies a better compliment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teletubbies(snip) A February 1999 article in the National Liberty Journal, published by evangelical pastor Jerry Falwell, warned parents that Tinky could be a hidden homosexual symbol, saying "he is purple—the gay pride color, and his antenna is shaped like a triangle—the gay pride symbol."(snip) http://www.salon.com/news/1999/02/13newsb.html:evilgrin:

I mean, they're people with families just like everyone else. And sure, I disagree with some of the more-loathsome rapes they've committed, but don't you just have to like them a little bit? It's not like they're murderers or anything.

A little anecdote:
Jerry Falwell, His Holiness Sri Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji, a Hindu, and Rabbi Michael Lerner are headed for a religious conference, but they get lost along the way. As it is getting late, they look for a hotel, but find none and instead they stop at a farm. The farmer tells them he has a place for two people to sleep in his house, but one will have to sleep in the loft in the barn. The Swamiji agrees to sleep in the barn. A few minutes later, there is a knock on the door.
"I'm sorry," he says, "but there is a cow in the barn. The cow is a sacred animal and I cannot disturb its sleep by being there."
The Rabbi says "That's fine. I'll sleep in the barn."
A few minutes later, there's a knock on the door.
"I'm sorry," Rabbi Lerner says, "but there is a pig in the barn. A pig is an unclean animal and I cannot defile myself by sleeping in the barn with it."
Jerry Falwell says "Well, I guess I'm going to have to sleep it he barn."
A few minutes later, there's a knock on the door. It's the cow and the pig.

29. I can usually find something I like about everybody. |
|
For Falwell...I remember this scene in the documentary The Eyes of Tammy Faye where, after he took over the Jim Bakker empire, slid down a waterslide from their amusement park in a suit. I thought it was really funny of him to do that, and I think he knew it was funny because people don't expect him to act like that. So in a way he could make fun of himself.
I guess that's why I tend to have moderate opinions, because I can keep track of what I like about what certain people do and what I don't like, and don't fear getting confused about it.

And even your claimed 'liking' is revealed as lack of hate.
Better to ask whether or not you're the only one here who didn't hate Falwell.
