2. It's not extremely far right and actually helps people
That seems to be what qualifies to as "center" these days- things we'd never consider in our darkest nightmares 10 years ago.

4. i don't consider any of it "left" - it's the just the right things to do
Edited on Wed Aug-11-10 03:16 AM by slay
which is all of a sudden "left" these days thanks to people who prefer to put the welfare of the super-rich, huge banks, and mega corporations above the good of the people. any deviation from the will of our corporate overloads is "too far left".

we need to bring the Democratic Party back in line with doing what's right for us humans, not faceless, soulless corporations. or maybe the system is corrupt beyond repair.

6. Those ARE left of center positions in this country
Are you saying we should not own the moral high ground and plant the flag of the Left on it??

I don't think we should run from the terms: progressive, liberal or left. WWJD.

Maybe I am just not getting your argument.

10. Because that is the message for today. We support radical leftist positions
that are old hat like the New Deal and what the New Democrats have been fighting against.

13. if a republican admin delivers on legislation that brings corporations more into the government,
continues wasteful wars, bashes teachers, etc -- i'm not going to like it.

i'm not going to like when dems do it either. no matter how 'progressive' others keep screaming it is.

14. 'health care' is not a policy, it's a desirable. Same with your other examples.
Edited on Wed Aug-11-10 03:42 PM by anigbrowl
Making healthcare more accessible and affordable to more people by doing (X, Y, Z) is a policy.

'Setting up a single payer system,' is a policy too - it's what I'd prefer to see. But that's just the name of the policy: to be credible, it has to be backed up with a lot of how-to; in particular, how to pay for it.

The health reform we have had so far only goes about half-way towards what I'd like to see - it's still too expensive and limits the rights of individual patients too much. However, I do consider it an improvement on what we had previously, and it provides a framework for further improvement in the future. I give it a C grade.

'What's so damn left' is the suggestion that because it does not go as far as hoped, it is totally worthless - a point of view which has been expressed many times on DU.

17. Bingo that is the point of it all.
Right on-the 'liberal left" have always been blamed only because they are the ones who have awakened to the big picture, and no longer want to play by the rules anymore. The rules are that you don't color outside the lines, you cannot tell certain truths that will expose just how criminal the power base has become.
