Florida is a rare mess, that's for sure. Molly Ivins could have made just as good a career there as she did in Texas because the people are just as crazy, albeit a different flavor of crazy. I think the heat and humidity do something to brain cells in both states. There is nothing else that can explain the attachment to wingnuttery and the proclivity for murdering one's family.
