Poll question: Re: Gibbs. So what do you think is REALLY going on? |
|
Why did Gibbs say this? I have read the gamut of theories here:
He was speaking off the cuff and blurted his own feelings.
He was totally misunderstood - it wasn't a slam at all.
It reflects real frustration by the administration that the far left does not appreciate what has genuinely been accomplished.
It was planned by the administration to reassure voters that Obama is not the socialist the media says he is.
Other...
Why do YOU think this happened? Was it Gibbs talking on his own? If it was the White House talking, what was their real purpose in having him say this?
AND
Now that he has said it, how is the White House feeling about the response?
Was it a trial balloon they regret?
Or is this working exactly to plan?
Please explain your answer.

I try not to guess other peoples intentions, but I like the guy, and that is enough for me, and he has a tough job. Although not sure where it all the difficulties comes from, but it must be frustrating to have the media spin everything, and take everything out of context.
Watched that happen for years on TV.

3. My theory is Gibbs is thin skinned and can't handle criticism. |
|
It obviously was not an attempt to increase voter enthusiasm and seemed more like whining to me.

The purpose was to gain some "street cred" with independents to show how independent Obama is from the left/liberals.
It worked perfectly because the left complained publicly and so he came off looking vastly more "centrist", with out actually having to call himself that.

This country is inexorably becoming a third-world fascist country. It is inevitable that at some point the servants of those behind that transition must openly acknowledge that fact and their role in bringing about that CHANGE. That time is apparently now.

9. Gibbs spoke his mind, but he reflects the opinions of his employers. |

I think the administration genuinely believes they are doing what they were elected to do, and they expected the election love fest to continue. Problems: many of us on the left were not prepared to be disparaged by senior members of the administration we worked to support. We expected some effort at "bipartisanship", sure, and the compromise that goes with that, but not the bending over backwards to kiss the ass of the GOP while villifying the liberals. I certainly do not compare Obama to W, and do not want any more republicans to win office in order to teach anyone a lesson, but I will be reluctant to vote for Obama again in '12. I will do it, because I hate republicans but won't be excited about it.
The Obama candidacy offerred a lot of opportunity for liberals to fantasize. The Obama presidency is much different. Obama is not the ideal tool to advance the liberal agenda in the US, but he is the one we have now. He has my reluctant support, but certainly not my enthusiasm.
I did email the White House this morning and urged Mr. Gibbs to resign. I doubt he will act on my request, or ever be aware of it, but I want someone there to know how I feel - they may not like me, but, man, the feeling is certainly mutual.

10. I wanted no bipartisanship |
|
Why would any Liberal want the Dems to enact ideas from the right wing when the righties drove this country into the ditch, destroyed the economy, caused a global economic collapse, systematically killed off the remnants of the middle class over the last 10 years and even now block unemployment with one hand and scream for continued tax cuts for the rich on the other.
What kind of fool would vote in the largest Democratic majority in history and think, "hey, maybe these Republicons have some really good ideas we could use."

"bipartisanship" speak was just political drivel, but it turned out much of his "liberal" persona was the salesmanship rather than the product... FWIW, Gibbs still says he is right, we suck, but vote for Dems/BHO anyway.
