Why would you want to divorce the Democratic Party?
It would be insane, under the present circumstances.

It would be nice to see a Party promote and pass campaign finance reform and get the corporate interests out of our government. It would be nice to have Representatives and Senators that represented the people rather than those that are stuffing their pockets so they can continue their "careers".

It would be nice to have a Party that appreciated their own supporters on the Left moreso than they do the crazy radicals on the Right, whom they continue to compromise with on almost every issue.

It would be nice to have a Party that would fight the status quo, win or lose. And it would be nice to know, without a doubt, that your Party would let the Bush taxcuts expire and would promote a more progressive tax rate. It would nice to have a Party that could save us from Third World status.

But we have what we have and the only other option is much, much worse. So there you are. What do you do?

2. Yet another example of the Democratic Shock Doctrine approach...
...yeah, we've got a gun to your head, but we won't pull the trigger...and THAT should be the new definition of "good"????

3. I want to drag the bastards into counseling
because there's only so long they can take me for granted, using me every couple of years and then going on their merry way, courting corporations and ignoring me.

Well on the topic of anything, the comment that we have what we have is silly.

If something is not acceptable, it does not matter what form it is, nor do you bow to threats of things getting worse.

Although I have not been paying attention to politics much lately, I think things are getting better. Maybe they are, maybe not, those choices involve many people.

But I still don't have beer money, so in my personal life I know things still have to change, since nobody corrected the issue from long ago.

 But that doesn't mean I would do anything I disagree with. heh, or I would try not to, not perfect or anything :)

But anyways, accepting things because you fear worse is not the way I think on things. Although I would not do or condone things getting worse, that does not mean I do not think things should improve.

17. you know that I resemble that remark

being, of course, a big time looser. Heck, it's practically my middle name. Even in the 1970s when I was a teen and my life was just starting I felt that "Lonesome loser" was my theme song. "He's a loser, but he still keeps on trying."

15. It would be nice...
If 20% of the party didn't think only they know what's best for everybody else and stopped screaming "it's our way or the highway" when people dare disagree with them. Wouldn't be too bad if they stopped preaching how they are the only one's who can save us from Third World Status, either.

Divorce is not the answer and is not needed. Sometimes, the person wishing to control the other just needs a trial separation to help them see just how insignificant they are without the other.
Of course, with a little respect and understanding from the one wishing total control over the other, a separation or divorce would not even be spoken of.

16. it would also be nice
if there were enough Democratic voters so that a person who spent $4000 of his own money and 200 hours of his time trying to fight Reaganomics would actually win his primary election too. Instead, as it turns out, you sorta need corporate cash or a personal fortune even to win a primary http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=153x9552

But I am not sure how campaign finance works either. Consider the Democratic Primary in Kansas for the Senate. It costs $1,760 to file for that race. Even with that barrier, we had five candidates. Suppose it was free, or publicly financed. Are you gonna get 200 candidates then? Then what? Do you give them all half an hour of state-wide TV time? Who is gonna watch 100 hours of campaign speeches? Do you print a campaign guide? Who is gonna read hundreds of pages? Plus, even with 5 candidates we probably should have a run-off system. But we don't. So Lisa won fairly handily with 31% to 24% a 6,000 vote margin. But meanwhile almost 8,000 idiots voted for Conroy who did not even bother to campaign.

I went to campaign forums where I got 2-5 minutes to speak. What the heck are you supposed to say in 2 minutes? You cannot say very much. Same thing for papers. Because their space is limited, they wanted you to answer each question with less than 50 words or so. Given the need to educate the voters, how are you supposed to do THAT with just 50 words?
